With current Dream middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi moving up to the light heavyweight division, Ronald “Jacare” Souza will get another crack at capturing the middleweight championship at Dream 9.
Tatame is reporting that the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stand-out will be fighting for the title on May 26th and his opponent may be someone he is very familiar with. Jason “Mayhem” Miller who Souza defeated via unanimous decision at Dream 4 in the middleweight grand prix finals is being rumored as his opponent. Miller became the first person to take Souza the distance as all of Jacare’s eight wins up to that point had come by first round submission.
Jacare’s coach Jousel Distak has gone on record confirming the May 26 date and that the title will be on the line but would only say that Miller is being considered and that they are waiting final confirmation from the organization’s officials. The two had a pretty exciting bout back in June of last year and Miller went on to announce his retirement shortly thereafter but has since announced a return to action. He is scheduled to face Kala Hose at Kingdom MMA’s first event on April 18th in Hawaii. Miller can be seen on Sunday night’s on MTV’s Bully Beatdown for the time being.
Souza went on to defeat Zelg Galesic in the grand prix’s semi-finals but lost to Mousasi via first round TKO after Mousasi landed a vicious up kick while Souza was in his guard. He has not fought since but has been helping Lyoto Machida prepare for his light heavyweight title match against Rashad Evans at UFC 98 in May.
