First of all regarding this fight:

Brandon Vera is a former Division I wrestler for Old Dominion and Navy.
Matt Hamill is a farmer Division III National Champion from Rochester state.

For whatever reasons, I am more impressed by the wrestling stature of a run of the mill Division I athlete than I am a Division III National Champ. It's comparable to a college basketball game against the Division III National Champs Washington State and Alabama. I'll pick Alabama in that game.

I'm not trying to discredit Hamill's wrestling. He has freakish strength, and is strong with the force, but this is not a typical Striker vs Grappler contest. Vera is a much better grappler than Hamill. Besides using his wrestling to keep a fight standing with 6' 8" 265 lb Tim Sylvia, he's a legitimate BJJ brown belt. If Hamill does overpower Vera, he will be submitted rather quickly. Hamill's standup is absolutely terrible. And Vera would see that sloppy, slow motion head kick coming 10 miutes before it's thrown. In whatever realm this fight takes place, I would give the advantage to Brandon Vera.

This is a hard one to choose from. Vera definately has the hands and Hamill has the wrestling. Even though i'm a vera fan i have to give the edge to Hamill. Vera hasn't fought the level of wrestler that Hamill is. If Hamill takes it to the mat instead of trying to keep it standing he might have an easy vicory. Even though he's no werdum or Sylvia Hamills strength is probably in the same league as theirs. He's definately a better athlete than either one of those guys.
