No disrespect to either guy, but who cares? At one time in the 90′s, this fight would have mattered. But UFC waited too long, just like they did with Lidell and Shogun.

The UFC used to ROCK before it became a cash factory. I guess the ufc suffers the same affliction as boxing, too much primping and staging for the fat PPV matchups. The big difference being that boxers are paid for their efforts and the ufc GETS PAID on behalf of their fighters’. Anyway, there are 50+ more compelling matchups I’d like to see more than these Matt rollers. Serra was young but ready so this fight should have happened many, many years ago.

I love the UFC, but it is a tough love. It actually pains me to say it here, but MMA doesn’t need UFC anymore.

And why won’t Dana White allow Roy Jones Jr. to come into the Octagon and get his ass whipped anyway? What’s he afraid of? Will the UFC not get paid enough?

Bottom line: i don’t care under what umbrella the fighers hook it up under, just as long as the matchups are pertinant and worth my hard earned dollars. For the record, I would pay a FORTUNE to see that Diaz-Jones fight to prove to all the boxing fans once and for all what reality is and what it ain’t.

Take away the grudge element and this isn’t a very interesting fight. Serra is the Buster Douglas of MMA. Without his upset over GSP, he’d be a candidate for a “whatever happened to ____” column. Hughes’ wrestling and gnp style seems passe, and his comparatively weak stand up has been exposed by GSP and Alves. Great career, but the sport may have passed him by, and I wonder about his enthusiasm.

Regardless of how it turns out, (and I’d have to give the edge to Hughes) I swear I’ll puke if they hug it out and say nice things about each other after the fight. I want the winner to stick to his guns and tell the crowd he still hates the loser and enjoyed kicking his butt.

I’ll just be glad when this circus fight is over and we can get to real fights that mean something. Hughes has publicly stated that this is his last fight, and with that, it means nothing in the sense of rankings. Two over the hill, overpaid fighters, that because of their salaries are causing good solid younger cheaper fighters to lose their contracts. I’ll be glad when the UFC sideshow is over and these over the hill fighters have retired and quit sucking up so much salary so the more deserving fighters can get the money they deserve.

Billy Warhol – - – I don’t see GSP’s lack of KO power as being an issue. He has so far kept everyone at bay, completely dominating the best the UFC has to offer him as of late. If he proves to have a weak chin, then he might have a problem, but as of now, he will continue his slaughter of the UFC’s finest, including Alves.

wow – detailed History Thank U! I remember being Shocked when Matt Serra Won against GSP in that 1st Title Defence – I thought GSP was like a Tito Ortiz or Chuck Liddell who would never be Beat!! Anything can happen in the UFC Steel Octagon!

Hughes vs Serra is a pretty even Match with Hughes having a slight edge due to his Wrestling Skills. I’m sure Serra has something to Prove tho! )

I’m also concerned about GSP’s Knockout Power – he dominated BJ Penn + a few others but wasn’t able to put them away?? Very Bizarre……….

Wow the UFC sure has fluffed Serra’s pro record! They show 16-5 on their website compared to Sherdog’s 9-5 stats. Serra does have great jiu-jitsu transitions but yea like said before me, he doesn’t really submit guys much at all. He will have his hands full on the ground with Matt Hughes. I picked Hughes by Unanimous Decision. Serra has a punchers chance (especially against Hughes) but I don’t think he can pull off a KO.

You’d think someone with Serra’s BJJ credentials would have actually submitted a few opponents. I don’t think Serra’s squatty little legs are even long enough to hold an average-sized adult in a triangle. I just cant see Serra popping off his first UFC submission in 7 years against someone as seasoned as Hughes.

And I don’t think Hughes has ever lost a decision… his game is to grind out rounds and he should be able to win every round from Serra even at this point in his career.

Hughes has terrible stand-up, particularly his defense, so it would make sense for Serra to try to keep the fight there. He’s got heavier hands and might be able to hurt Hughes, after which a finish on the ground is possible.

If Serra can’t hurt Hughes standing, I think Hughes could ride this one out with his wrestling. His sub defense is solid enough to keep Serra at bay.

I give Serra a slight edge in this one, but it’s a pick em.

I really don’t think this will be close at all. Hughes should be able to beat Serra decisively, but I will be cheering for Serra to get the upset. I hate Hughes. So much.
