It’s time to gear up once again for another Bellator Fighting Championship event this evening. From dazzling spinning backfist knockouts to silly upside down triangles that you will never erase from your memory, Bellator has been been consistently putting together match-ups that pan out and there’s no reason as to why tonight’s seventh week of action under the promotion should be any different.
The event is scheduled to take place tonight at the legendary Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, Illinois and will air tomorrow evening on ESPN Deportes via one day tape delay.
Undefeated welterweight Lyman Good has been making quite a name for himself since getting his start in MMA just over three years ago, defeating TUF veteran Mike Dolce at an IFL event in 2007 before stopping the highly touted Hector Urbina with a rear-naked choke in the second round of their Bellator bout that took place in April. Tonight he will be facing off with Jorge Ortiz in a welterweight tournament semifinal bout.
Also competing on tonight’s card will be UFC veteran Dave Menne, who will be meeting up with Omar De La Cruz in the second welterweight tournament semifinal while annother UFC veteran, Eddie Sanchez, will be looking to make his Bellator debut count as he matches up with Jay White.
There are a couple of hot prospects flying under the radar this evening as well. First off, we have Kerry Vera, wife to UFC light heavyweight Brandon Vera, who will be making her Bellator debut against Leslie Smith. Vera is a dangerous striker and is poised to become a force to be reckoned with in female MMA.
Keep your eyes out for Jacob Volkman, who with a record of 8-0 and training out of the Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts Academy among the likes of Sean Sherk, Brock Lesnar, Nick Thompson, Chris Tuchscherer and others, could easily be considered one of the top welterweight prospects in the game. Like many of the other top athletes that make their home at Minnesota MMA, his wrestling level is absolutely top notch. Volkman will be fighting under the Bellator banner for the first time when he faces off with Kevin Knabjian this evening.
