Sorry, but Volkmann would beat Swick. Mark this post, Volkmann will be the UFC champion at 170 and is already better than 90% of the 170s.

bmwiest, , of course all of the results are pure specualation, but really just light hearted fun more than anything. Everyone will have differing opinions on how different bouts will end but I just wanted to find a fresh, creative way at looking at some of the top gyms in the business.

Of course I'm fully aware of the IFL, but the format was different than my dream format. Many of the match-ups that I proposed have very little chance of coming to fruition because of fighters being bound to multiple organizations. That was the IFL's problem. Sure they had Team Militech, but where was Sylvia, Hughes or Lawler at the time? Something like this isn't going to happen anytime soon so it's just better to take it for what it is, good fun that will hopefully familiarize many fans with gyms they are unfamiliar with.

Thanks for reading, what outcomes do you think would be different?

Cory I like the article I disagree with some of the outcomes but it is a matter of opinion on who wins without seeing an actual fight.

I know someone suggested this would be a good idea for a show and if I remember right they did try this it was called the IFL.

You're absolutely right Logan, and I apologize for the mistake on the name. Fixing it now.

btw- I came really close to matching you up with Cung, but I know he's kind of running his own gym right now. Thanks for reading.

Interesting concept for an article, but I have to comment on a lack of basic facts for the story. It is the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy (MMAA) not Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts.

I always enjoy telling people about this awesome gym I train at only to have them tell me that they are going to train at MMMA, and then they show up at my gym the next week.

"...so why not feature two different gyms going at it. Or maybe even an event with nothing but two gyms fighters heading off with one another..."

Camp against camp-new, fresh, and outside of the box thinking. Someone should build an organization around this concept. They could also use 6 sided ring. sounds like a winner.

I like the concept of the column. Only disagreement I have with your comparison is Sherk/Thomson. I have a feeling the "Punk" might pull off a win against Sherk simply because he did an excellent job handling Gilbert Melendez (who is as wrestle-heavy as "The Muscle Shark").

Velasquez has far more technical striking and can actually throw combinations and kicks. Lesnar is good at throwing very straight, very hard shots, but doesn't know what to do other than pull the guy to the mat and lay on top of them. When you get 2 world class wrestlers in an MMA match, the fight usually ends up standing.

Lesnar could knock out any human and most horses with one punch, so in a 25 minute fight that would have a lot of opportunities to happen. But I would have to go Velazquez by decision. It would be interesting to see what Lesnar would do vs a barrage of leg kicks... if they would wear him down or if Velasquez would be leaving himself too open to takedowns.
