At last night’s post fight conference following UFC 98, UFC president Dana White announced plans for the UFC to return to California.
UFC 104 which is scheduled for October 24 will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
The last time the UFC held a show in Los Angeles was UFC 60 which marked the return of UFC Hall of Famer Royce Gracie to the octagon as he faced off against then welterweight champion Matt Hughes in a catchweight bout of 175lbs. Hughes was dominant and showed just how far MMA had evolved when he earned a first round TKO of Gracie.
The Staples Center has a capacity of 20,000 and is currently the home of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers as well as hockey’s Los Angeles Kings. The arena has also been home to some big boxing matches including some Oscar De La Hoya fights.
This won’t be the first trip back west for the UFC as they held UFC 63 & UFC 76 in Anaheim and UFC 65 & UFC 73 in Sacramento.
