At last Strikeforce has announced the largest female mixed martial arts bout in the history of the sport.
Gina Carano is set to face off with Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos on August 15 for Strikeforce on a card that has been rumored for California.
The battle between the two top female fighter’s has been a long time coming ever since the days when EliteXC was building the fight up before the promotion’s eventual demise.
Carano hasn’t been seen in the cage since her October of 2008 bout with Kelly Kobold in which she dominated en route to a unanimous decision while Cyborg last fought in April when she stopped Hitomi Akano by TKO.
Also announced for the August 15 Strikeforce card is a lightweight championship rematch between Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez, and Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem is also set to make his return to the promotion against a yet to be determined opponent.
