Lucio Linhares vs. Mikhail Zayats set for Affliction “Trilogy”

Two of the very best fighters from M-1 Challenge will be facing off on the undercard of Affliction III: Trilogy as Lucio Lihares (12-4) and Mikhail Zayats (8-3) have been confirmed to do battle.

M-1Global.com was the first to break the news of the middleweight bout.

The event is set for August 1 and will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. and will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett.

Linhares is a Team Finland fighter that has won his last four straight bouts with a recent win over UFC veteran Sean Salmon while Zayats competes for Fedor Emelianenko’s Team Russia Imperial and has dropped his last two bouts after going on a four fight win streak.

The two are no strangers to one another as they fought in one of the most electrifying battles in M-1 Challenge history back in June of 2008. Zayats ended up with the decision victory in a bout that many felt could have gone the other way. They will have their chance to settle the score once and for all at “Trilogy” in a fight that is impossible to disappoint.

A full list of the bouts expected for the event are listed below:

Sylvia was removed from the card because of the humiliating knockout loss to Ray Mercer. Buentello’s expected opponent is the winner of an upcoming bout between Gilbert Yvel and Pedro Rizzo.

I personally wouldn’t mind seeing a Buentello vs. Yvel bout.

Cory would u think they would just replave Tim with Rothwell, and give Gormley a new opponent?

I think Rothwell vs. Buentello would be a great match-up on paper but it may end up being a somewhat dull bout. I don’t know why, I’ll just call it a gut feeling. I just really like the way Buentello vs. Yvel sounds. Gauranteed knockout, no way around it. I’d also like to cast my vote for Chase Gormley having the scariest sherdog fightfinder picture of all time.

Any fight involving Rothwell or Buentello will always showcase at least one gut. Maybe gut feelings, too.

Santiago vs. Belfort should equal fireworks.
Barnett/Fedor I’ve been wanting to see for years and now unless unforeseen circumstances arise it finally going to happen.

How about Paul Buentello v Aleksander Emelianenko, who was rumored to be fighting in Affliction 1 and 2 but was turned down by CA. Athletic Commission.

Unfortunately Aleks will never be cleared to fight in the U.S. because of Hepatitis B.
Because him and Buentello would be a good fight.
