UFC 102 is set to take place on August 29 at the Rose Center in Portland, Oregon and will feature a headlining bout between former UFC heavyweight champions Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
The bout between Tuchscherer and Gonzaga has been set for the preliminary card at this time.
Gonzaga is going to be looking to bounce back from his disappointing knockout loss at the enormous hands of Shane Carwin during UFC 96 back in March of 2009. Prior to his most recent loss Gonzaga was coming off of back to back victories in the octagon over Justin McCully at UFC 86 and Joshua Hendricks at UFC 91.
Tuchscherer has been flying under the radar for quite some time now compiling a 17-1 record during his five years in the sport, putting together wins over UFC veterans Krzysztof Soszynski and Brandon Lee Hinkle along the way. Tuchscherer is a two time NCAA Division II All-American wrestler that trains out of the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy and is a key training partner to current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
UFC 102 could easily be viewed as a USA vs. Brazil event due to the fact that six of the ten announced match-ups involve bouts featuring American fighters going head to head against fighters that are native to Brazil.
