I'd like to see Dan Severn live and fighting. He seems like a very respectable man. I need to go watch some of his fights, I bet he was demolishing everyone! He is a true pioneer for this sport and he has garnered legend status because of it.

Whoever is now in charge of making the graphics for the slideshow on the home page needs to learn more about graphic design. What's with the odd colors and crazy fonts? Just make something look professional. It looks like something from a teenager's myspace page

I remember being shocked when Hackney had Joe Son, Kimos strange and religiously fanatical buddy, in some sort of side mount and repeatedly struck him in the balls. Like, hard. I haven't seen it in years but anyone who hasn't seen it should check it out - how far this sport has come in only 10+ years is crazy, really. When Joe Son walked down to the cage, though, he had it coming from that point on. Supposedly there was a gentleman's agreement backstage at most early UFC events regarding hair pulling, biting, groin strikes etc. Hackney obviously saw Joe Son as the exception to it.

Absolutley agree with Dan about honoring some of the old school guys, particularly Marco Ruas. The fight between Marco Ruas and Paul Varelans was an all time classic. It's out there on the 'net for any young guys who've never seen it.

Ruas was a Brazilian vale tudo fighter, in the days when Brazilian ju-jutsu was pretty much exclusively associated with the Gracie family, but his style had elements of submission wrestling and kickboxing. Ruas stood about 6'1", weighed around 210-215, and came in to an early UFC fight against Varelans, who stood something like 6'8" and weighed over 300 lbs. Ruas used brutal leg kicks to chop down the monster, until Varelans literally could no longer stand. First time I remember anyone really using the muy thai leg kick so effectively in what later became known as MMA, and proved so clearly that technique and discipline could overcome a size and strength advantage.

Keith Hackney was also an early UFC standout, who broke both of his hands on the head of a 500+ pound Sumo wrestler on the way to a knockout victory. Great stuff from the early days of the UFC, and it would be great to see those pioneers recognized.
