Marius Zaromskis shocks Sakurai in Japan, wins DREAM Welterweight Grand Prix

Marius ZaromskisThe favorite to win it all in DREAM’s recent welterweight grand prix met an unexpected fate in Saitama, Japan.

Hayato “Mach” Sakurai was cut early into his match with Marius Zaromskis prompting the referee to call a halt to the action so the doctors could take a look at the injury. After a short deliberation process with the doctors the action was restarted.

Sakurai was almost immediately  blasted with a brutal left high kick that sent him crashing to the canvas. A couple of hard follow up punches prompted the referee to call and end to the contest sending Zaromskis into the DREAM welterweight finals.

Sakurai was widely regarded as the favorite to win the tournament.

Zaromskis is a Lithuanian fighter that entered the bout with Sakurai sporting a record of 9-2. The win over Sakurai made it three consecutive wins for the welterweight.

He went on to face Jason High in the welterweight grand prix finals where he knocked the American unconscious with a brutal head kick to claim the championship.
