I just can’t believe that this is happening right now in this business. It is ridiculous. If you can’t win the real and pure way, they why even fight? This goes back to the old Japanese movies, it’s a true martial artist thing to stay pure. Josh Barnett, you disgust me!

The statement by the Californina State Athletic Commission said Barnett tested positive for drostanolone propianate, sold under the product name Masteron. Read on mesomorphosis.com that drostanolone is a steroid used by body builders preparing for competition, and that it passes from the blood quickly, relative to other steroids, in about ten days. It enhances strength and explosive endurance, just what the doctor ordered for MMA.

If Barnett thought he could pass a test to renew his license to fight in California, he must have thought he could clear in the the ten day time frame. Having tested positive for steroids in 2002, he would have to know that a second positive test would seriously jeopardize his MMA career. I’m thinking Barnett didn’t really want to fight Fedor in the first place, but to fail a test on purpose doesn’t make any kind of sense, so that leaves Barnett as an inept failure who knew he was outmatched, and who tried to gain an illegal advantage through steroids. Again…

The irony in all of this is Barnett isn’t allowed to fight Fedor because of a positive test for steroids (apparently), but the guy who is most likely to take his place to fight Fedor has tested positive himself a few years back.

Maybe Barnett can use the Tim Sylvia excuse of ” I was just trying to lean up and lose my belly” I think we would be a little more understanding then.
In response to Cory Brady’s comment yes it is hard on Fedor but he is the best fighter in the world for a reason, and if he wins here he just proves it again.

Vitor Belfort might be the best fighter they can move to fight Fedor, but that ruins a great matchup against Santiago. The rumor of Bobby Lashley is probably because Affliction wants a push for PPV buys. This is really a lose-lose for Fedor, a win-win for anyone who accepts the fight on short notice, and possibly a major loss for Affliction.

If they really wont license someone for testing positive for thc(in a state where medicinal marijuana is legal than that athletic commision needs to be gutted and re-staffed. Not to say all the commissions should be re-staffed IMO.

MARIJUANA IS NOT A PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT DRUG. STOP TESTING FOR IT.

This really sucks for Fedor too. Sure, he’s “The Baddest Man On The Planet” but he is still going to have to adjust his game on a weeks notice to fight someone different than who he was training for. Whoever ends up fighting Fedor, it’s a win-win situation. If you lose, you only had a week to prepare for one of the most feared fighters in the world, if you win, well… you do the math.

This makes me sad as both a Barnett fan and as a fight fan who was looking forward to next week’s card. Honestly, it looks like Barnett is back to Japan after this. Sad.

Reports are coming out that it wasn’t a random out of competition testing but rather a test Barnett took to renew his license in CA. A test Barnett setup the appointment for.

If this is the case, Barnett’s a bigger fucking idiot than I originally thought.
