Nick Diaz vs. Jay Hieron likely for Aug. 15 “Strkefore: Carano vs. Cyborg” (UPDATED)
It appears as though a match-up between Nick Diaz and Jay Hieron is currently being pieced together by Strikeforce for the companies August 15 show.
Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg is set to take place in San Jose, California from the HP Pavilion and will air live on Showtime.
The unlikely bout between the two is now looking very likely according to a recent report from GracieFighter.com. Unlikely because of the fact that the two men were both set to fight different opponents for different promotions during the month of August.
Hieron was previously expected to face off with Paul Daley at the August 1 “Affliction Trilogy” event that was recently scrapped, while Diaz was deep in training for a Strikeforce welterweight championship bout with Joe Riggs before Riggs was forced from the bout due to a recent hospitalization.
There is no news as to whether this possible bout between Diaz and Hieron will still hold title implications with Strikeforce.
Apparently Phil Baroni was briefly being considered as a replacement for Riggs in his bout with Diaz before the match-up was shot down by Showtime. It also seems as though Takanari Gomi was being sought as a replacement but those negotiations have not been successful.
Diaz has been on fire recently, winning his last five bouts and going 2-0 during his recent stint with Strikeforce, while Hieron has also put together a recent five fight win streak fighting for the now defunct IFL and Affliction promotions.
Editors Note: It appears as though it is being reported elsewhere that Hieron has been inked to a three-fight deal with Strikeforce, but Strikeforce’s Director of Communications Mike Afromowitz has recently confirmed to The Fight Network that those reports are completely false. He also stated that Diaz is still expected to appear on the August 15 card. Stay tuned to Five Ounces as we continue to keep you up to date on this still developing story.

Ooooooo, didn’t see this one coming. They ought to name this show:

Like I said earlier this could be a very good fight, I dont see Diaz pulling off the first sub on Hieron. A ko maybe but more likely a UD.

Yep. Now with Thomson vs Melendez possibly off the card, this is really getting crazy.

Gomi would have been huge, I wonder why thoes negotiations fell through? Maybe he didnt want to lose to the same guy twice.

Maybe he just didn’t want to be a part of this cursed card. I don’t give a shit who they try to put on it at this point. They can have it. This thing has some sort of curse on it (joking. Still ridiculous though)

The way Diaz picked apart Scott Smith was almost comical. His boxing has really improved and I could see him picking Hieron apart as well. I don’t think he’ll knock Hieron out, but will definitely earn a UD. I really look forward to any time Diaz fights.

I think this card surpasses the ufc 85 card for match changes. Come aug 15 the only fight I expect to see is Carano vs Cyborg. Anything else is a bonus

You’re right man. This is getting ridiculous. But, it’s just perfect considering the week we’ve had.

I actually see Diaz knocking Hieron out just because Hieron has a tendency to get hit a lot in fights. And you know the old saying once a guys been knocked out hes easier to put to sleep.
Kinda looking forward to this fight, eventhough you all probably know by now I think Nick is much better at MW.

I am surprised how good Diaz is at MW. I think this will be a good fight and hope it is for a belt. Realy Hieron deserves to fight for the belt more than Riggs did anyway.

im just glad i get to see nick diaz, babalu & mousasi in the same month. if the thompson melendez fight goes ahead, this is the kind of card that will get me full wood by the end of it.
was it in strikeforce jake shields beat paul daley recentley? just wondering if paul could find a fight on the same card or maybe the next challengers event. i know most here wouldnt give a fuck a bout an english fighter, but the guy is entertaining and trained like a fuck for the affliction fight. i hope for his sake he gets put on somewhere. i reckon he may head to japan soon

Oh definately fan. Who knows if itll be for the belt though considering Hieron would probably have to strike up a long deal to be in a title fight.
I still think Shields should be in for Diaz in this ww title fight too.

God knows there are enough Welterweights ready and willing to fight Diaz. Hieron, Gomi, D. Lauzon, Horodecki, Oliveria to name a few.

Hindsight , it was elite xc that shields fought paul daley. Shields won but Daley was very impressive, to me anyway.

MMA money line- Horodecki and Louzon are lightweights, so I dont see them fighting Diaz and having any sort os success. Gomi is apparently out of this also.

Hieron is tough and now he is angry, I see a much better fight than that. Not to discount Diaz who is always angry.

Hahaha.
You gotta wonder how much pot he would have to smoke to not be angry.

He is probably angry at strikeforce for having him fight his first three fights at three different weight classes.

Well come on his first two fights were at catch weights of 179 and 180lbs. and he weighed in at 180 for both.

I thought it was 179-182, but after the Chris Cyborg incident we know that weight classae dont mean much unless it is for a title.
