Phillipe Nover vs. Sam Stout set for UFC Fight Night 19
A lightweight bout pitting former 5 Oz’s blogger and TUF 8 runner-up Phillipe Nover against Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout has recently been made official by the UFC.
The two will face off during the preliminary portion of “UFC Fight Night 19” which will take place from Oklahoma City on September 16, 2009. The event is set to air live on Spike TV.
Nover will be stepping up on just four weeks notice to fill the shoes of Kyle Bradley, who was recently pulled from the card.
After dropping a decision to Efraine Escudero in the lightweight finals of the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Nover was stopped via TKO at the hands of Kyle Bradley during UFC 98. A stoppage widely seen as an early stoppage by most that have viewed it. Early stoppage or not, Nover undoubtedly needs a win against Stout to feel secure about his spot with the UFC.
Stout holds a career record of 14-5, and a UFC record of 3-4. He is a heavy handed crowd pleasing fighter that has taken home “Fight of the Night” honors on a three separate occasions. Most recently Stout edged out Matt Wiman in a hard fought unanimous decision at UFC 97.
A full list of the bouts expected for “UFC Fight Night 19″ are listed below:
Nate Diaz vs. Melvin Guillard
Roger Huerta vs. Gray Maynard
Carlos Condit vs. Jake Ellenberger
Tim Credeur vs. Nate Quarry

Mike Pyle vs. Chris Wilson
C.B. Dollaway vs. Dan Miller
Phillipe Nover vs. Sam Stout
Justin Buchholz vs. Jeremy Stephens
Brock Larson vs. Mike Pierce
Ryan Jensen vs. Steven Steinbeiss

This should be a solid fight, but look for Nover to win via sub.
Nover soon to be 0-3 and out of the UFC. Stout is to strong and to well rounded not to mention far more experienced and training with team tompkins means he is going to be ready. Stout has only ever been stopped in a fight twice both to the same dude and once was in his debut the other three losses where by decision to Etim, Clementi, and Fisher (who he beat by decision aswell). Nover got tko’d in his last fight to a mid level guy in Kyle bradley and before that lost a boring unanimous decision to Efrain Escudero. I don’t see Nover getting out of the first round yet again. Stout will get his ninth career tko/ko in round 1
“Nover soon to be 0-3 and out of the UFC.”
Im leaning towards this. So much for the next Anderson or GSP.
I wonder if Dana regrets hyping Nover up like he did when he was in tuf. Nover looked good against mid-tier fighters but throw him in to the deep end and i bet he’ll crumble. This fight is either going to make him or break him but honestly stout is to experienced and fought way better fighters to lose to this guy. Just my own opinion.tko rd 2
O’CANADA…..Stout is going to crush him badly
great point edub
Stout may win, but I am still pissed because he did not win that fight against Wiman.
yeah I am bitter
HAAAAAAA. Thats how I feel about the Curran/Mizugaki fight.
KTru I was on the fence on that fight but I will take it. Me being bias
Stout is going to knock the GSP out of Nover. He thinks fainting on TUF is embrassing, just wait. Anybody out there tried P90X? The hair on my arms are sore.
fight of the night
and
i take Sam Stout via unanimous decision
Stout wins, probably by tko or ko.
Cantwell and Stann again? This is their third fight, isn’t it? Hopefully Stann’s learned something more than “punch lots and punch hard.”
Maynard’s going to teach Huerta why he’s called The Bully. Huerta will have to get on his bike and hope for a decision on points. Don’t see that happening, though.
