Herschel Walker signs contract with Strikeforce
Former Pro-Bowl NFL running back Herschel Walker is the newest addition to the Strikeforce heavyweight roster.
The forty-seven year old former Heisman Trophy winner is currently a sixth degree black belt in Taekwondo.
According to a recent report at MMAFanhouse.com, Walker has recently inked a deal with the organization and will begin training at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California.
“This isn’t a publicity stunt or a gimmick,” said Strikeforce director of communications Mike Afromowitz in the report. “Herschel Walker has tremendous athleticism, and he has always shown that off the gridiron. He’s accomplished a lot in his life and in the world of sports. His accomplishments speak for themselves, and we hope that his athleticism can transition into a successful MMA career.”
Walker’s debut for the promotion is expected to take place sometime in early 2010.

Excellent. I suppose with much training and a few fights under his belt, he’ll be ready to challenge for the HW belt by the age of 51 or 52. When you have to state that something “isn’t a publicity stunt or a gimmick”, it usually is. Has he ever fought a professional or amateur MMA fight??

He is a hell of an athleate, way more gifted than most of the guys fighting now, it is just to bad he is getting such a late start.

ya fan i agree 100%. The man is not only a great athleate but would have been a great ambassoder for the sport since he is nothing but class. 15 years earlier and he would have been a great help in getting MMA out there with his name himself.

Strikeforce- how low can you go? I suppose he will be a top contender in Strikeforce’s “stacked” HW division. In other news Franco Harris has just signed a contract with Shark Fights…..

edub, Ditka is a fucking animal- he’d tear Fagdor and the rest of ‘em to pieces! This is a civilized sport not gladiator shit; you can’t just put a man in a cage with a lion hahaha! The only man who could beat Ditka is Chuck Norris and I’m pretty sure there are laws preventing such brutality!
