Alistair Overeem Defeats Peter Aerts at K-1 World GP 2009
Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem continued to look impressive during his recent expedition into the Olympics of kickboxing as he edged out 3X K-1 World Grand Prix champion Peter Aerts in a hard fought unanimous decision.
The two faced off during the K-1 World Grand Pix 2009 Final 16 in Seoul, Korea.
Fellow mixed martial artist Melvin Manhoef also saw action on the card, dropping a decision at the hands of “The Flying Gentleman” Remy Bonjasky. It was the third loss to the fellow Dutchman suffered in the kickboxing career of Manhoef.
Below is a full list of results from the card:
Chi Bin Lim def. Tahir Menxhiqi via unanimous decision
Kin Taiei def. Catalin Morosanu via disqualification (late punch)
Remy Bonjasky def. Melvin Manhoef via unanimous decision
Errol Zimmerman def. Glaube Feitosa via unanimous decision
Ruslan Karaev def. Kyotaro via unanimous decision
Ewerton Teixeira def. Singh Jaideep via unanimous decision
Semmy Schilt def. Daniel Ghita via unanimous decision
Jerome Le Banner def. Musashi via unanimous decision
Alistair Overeem def. Peter Aerts via unanimous decision
Badr Hari def. Zabit Samedov via knockout – Round 1

Too bad; that guy doesn’t even deserve to be on a ring with Aerts. That’d mean Aerts won’t, for the first time, be in the finals?

Did you watch the fight?
Overeem rag dolled him for 3 rds. It was a total ass whipping.

Unfortunately yes, I’ve watched, and it truly saddens me. It’s just that Overeem will never be nowhere close to be the great kickboxer that Aerts is. Or used to be, in his prime, around ten years ago. That’s probably the beginning of the end of his career; and I wish that those who are his last opponents were top level.

Taiei Kin got hit late, and quite hard, but to be taken out on a stretcher? Really? The punch was that hard? I’m dubious.

Overeem may not be as good as a kickboxer, but considering the guy has an above average ground game he truly is a better all around fighter then Aerts ever was over ever will be.

I agree with you Shotokai… it did look a little suspicious that he would stay down for that long after that hit. It was an entertaining fight up until then thou. Wish it had gone longer.

Kin is a bad actor and he embarrassed himself with that horrible phony performance. Then the “we fight again” crap afterwards…it was truly pathetic.
Robo-Overeem was anything but impressive, but he was fighting an old man. he had a syringe sticking out of his ass as he came in to the ring also, luckily his trainer saw it and pulled it out before the camera caught it.

Starforsaken you make no sense at all. You say Overeem doesn’t belong in the same ring and that he will never be the kick boxer Aerts is or was, yet Alistair won a unanimous dec. Give him a little credit.
As for you horror, it was only “vitamins” in the syringe.
Last to you Alistair GET YOUR ASS BACK IN THE CAGE!.

I myself saw a bit of a ragdoll effect, but look at the guy. He’s big. Not Semmy Schilt big, but big enough.
That’s the one I look forward too next. Schilt vs Overeem

The pairings already announced for December Overeem draws Teixeira, Schilt vs LeBanner, Hari vs. Karaev, and Bonjasky vs. Zimmerman.

In the Taiei vs Morosanu fight it looked like Moro was paing Taiei back for punching him when he thought the round was over, he was winning the fight and headind to a ko win, Taiei will get koed next fight. It looked like after the punch he looked over to make sure the ref saw. Shades of Montell ice Griffith vs Roy Jones Jr.
