I would say that you have a man crush on Silva.
If he ever faces another guy that does not come in with the stupid game plan of standing and trading with him or falling on the ground hoping Anderson will fall on top of him I may agree about his ability but for now I would say having seen his fights against Lutter and Hendo and his losses in Pride that he can be taken down and dominated on the ground. I really think that GSP would beat him for that reason. Like I said Hendo looked the better fighter in the 1st rd of the last fight and I think he could and would beat him if they were to fight again. Just my opinion thats all.

Initially I thought it made better sense to have Belfort fight either Henderson or Marquardt, but after further thought this match up makes more sense. Henderson probably can’t beat Silva. Silva wore him down and submitted him in the second round of their fight. Henderson isn’t any better or different since then, and I don’t think Silva has deteriorated. Marquardt lost decisively against Silva, and although he may have improved some, it’s not enough to make a difference. Meanwhile, Belfort has a lot of publicity right now because of his huge ko’s of Lindland and Franklin. From the standpoint of publicity, it’s a good time for him to fight Silva.

Back in Pride in 2006, Henderson beat Belfort by unanimous decision. If Belfort beats Silva, then it sets up a re-match between Henderson and a resurgent Belfort for the UFC belt. That would be a HUGE fight, at least for the long-time fans. Even if Belfort loses to Silva, UFC can still hype a re-match between Henderson and him because of the past history.

Meanwhile, Okami and Marquardt can slug it out to see who gets the next shot as between the two of them. That would be a good fight with title implications.

Well does anyone think Anderson Silva now would beat the Couture that beat Vitor? I think it would be a fun fight to see

This fight is great. Vitor is a great striker, pure and simple. Putting him in with Silva is the most exciting news I’ve heard about a Silva fight since I heard he knocked the dirt off rich franklin. By the way, people forget silva got his title shot after beating chirs leben… so its not unheard of for this kind of thing to happen and have merit.

also, hendo vs marq. is a great fight for the guys in the top 3-5 in their weight in the sport. and i personally wouldn’t pay to see either fight silva even if they might win. whereas I’d pay to see silva ko vitor or vice versa

Also Xtreme I gotta disagree with 5 and 7-10 being relevant. He isnt Machida so just him being a south paw will not be an advantage. He was lhw champ for about a month because of a freak injury to Couture. The UFC 12 tournament was fought against a bunch of guys who would probably lose to Jose Canseco today. He might be more cut than Silva but bigger he is definately not. But yes I guess he is the Phenom.

Annoying.

Silva gets another fight against a guy who is a tailor made fighter for him. The only guys who can beat silva are guys with great wrestling great jiujitsu and a solid chin. I think its time for Rashad to make the cut to MW.

Hendo stated that he wont fight in the MW unless its aginst Silva. I dont think we will see a Hendo vs Nate The Great anytime soon. Most likely if he does re-sign with the UFC he will move back up to 205

Silva already beat marquat, hendo so a re-match would suk for the ufc fans. If vitor wasn’t in the ufc then i believe hendo would have gotten a rematch but since he is then the fight is on. Silva will win by KO in the 3 rd rd. and he would beat the winner of hendo & marquat.

Funny. Hendo didn’t have what it takes a couple of years ago. And Hendo is the EXACT same fighter he was then albeit 2 years older.

I don’t understand all this “Hendo can beat Silva” love that’s been worming its way onto the boards lately…

Extream machine, I agree with most of the above statement you made except if you are going to dismiss Hendersons win over Bisping then you HAVE to throw out Vitors win over Terry Martin, because that guy has been koed so many times by so many guys that getting a ko over him does not mean much, and if he were to fight Bisping you might acually see a bisping ko.

While some fights might be more marketable etc. I am baffled by the match making in the UFC lately. It just seems they randomly toss stuff together. It seemed as if Henderson was told, beat Bisping and you get Silva. Then Marquart wins and it’s like hmm who knows. Now Belfort beats the same Franklin that Hendo beat and he gets the title shot? I don’t get it. What are their plans for Hendo. It’s already been almost 3 months since he fought last and there is nothing on the horizon for him now. Seems to me it should have been Hendo vs Silva, Belfort vs Marquart and the winners then fight. Same thing happens with Shogun at LHW. He fights a washed up Chuck Liddel and gets an immediate title shot against Machida in what is regarded as the most talented division in MMA? All that talent and there wasn’t anyone else in line for a title shot other than Shogun? It just seems lately that there isn’t any loyalty to the guys that stick with the UFC. It is going to the guys that leave to fight for other promotions. I just don’t get it. I mean they are worthy people but to me you should have to actually earn a title shot.

out of all the top MW the only one that i think could beat Silva is Vitor

Nate – is well rounded but he KO a BJJ guy with almost no stand up
Hendo – IMO he did not beat Franklin and he KO and overrated Brit who he only hyped to make money in the UK
Okami – common are you guys serious who? wants to see another Thales Leites fight? anyone?

why Vitor deserves the title shot?

1 – More Marketable
2 – New opponent
3 – The second guy behind Silva to KO Franklin (Hendo could not)
4 – coming of 3 devastating KOs (Not 1 overrated one)

It’s funny how people still think Okami deserves a title fight even though he’s been injured the majority of the last 2 years, yet are choked Belfort gets a shot.

In my opinion, Belfort was brought in because he was demolishing guys, even if they weren’t that great, and in his first fight ko’d a guy faster than Wanderlei, Hendo, or Anderson could.

Is it better than seeing Silva vs. Mir or something like that? No. But it’s way better to see Silva fight somebody he hasn’t fought than guys like Marquardt and Hendo, who both got their a**es handed to them.

It blows my mind how you can even call Silva over rated. Hendo only looked the better fighter while he layed and prayed for the first round. He got absolutely dominated from start to finish in the second. One of my personal highlights is seeing Hendo’s face as he gets choked out. Anderson Silva is the Ali of MMA, only not such an asshole. To say he is anything less is pure ignorance, plain and simple.

He makes the best fighters look like chumps, and there’s really nothing else you can say about that.

Can we have a rankings system please. Dana and the guys are just making the belt worth nothing. You should earn a shot by becoming the no. 1 contender not by beating a guy at a different weight for f#cks sake. I mean he hasn’t even competed in the UFC at 185! what a joke.
Having said that I will back vitor. Silva is not the fighter he is made out to be. He has only beaten 7 MWs in the UFC and in my humble opinion Leben, Cote, Leites and Lutter are not even Top 20 and Hendo looked like he was the better fighter until he got caught. My only worry is that Silva will clinch and Vitor will tire and lose the will to fight as he has done so many times.

I’m pretty sure Neijia was referring to the the potential boxing match with Roy Jones Jr. I have no reason why anyone is interested in see that fight though.

I’m excited to see this fight, I think Anderson will win it, but at least it isn’t going to be a re-run and Belfort is dangerous enough that he should be able to get Anderson focused.. I’m also excited that we will for almost sure no get to see Hendo v Marquardt sometime before the end of the year, or maybe on the same show.

There is absolutely not a supposed A.Silva vs. Bones Jones fight.

Bones Jones has not even faced the upper level guys yet, nevermind the elite. He hasn’t even fought on the main cards yet, he’s been on the undercards.
It would make zero sense for the UFC to devalue Bones Jones by feeding him to Silva.
Jones is still very young. They can take their time moving him up the ladder one rung at a time, and then when he’s finally ready, get him a title shot.
