DREAM 12 to Feature Six-Sided Cage; Eddie Alvarez vs. Katsunori Kikuno to Headline
It looks like the recent surge of popularity of mixed martial arts stateside has influenced the Japanese promoters of DREAM to Americanize their event to some degree.
DREAM has long used a four cornered ring during all of their events up until this point. They have also long employed two rounds, with the first being ten minutes and the second being five, as opposed to the three five-minute rounds commonly used in the United States.
The promotion announced today that DREAM 12 will not only be the first to feature three rounds, it will also be the first event to utilize a six-sided white cage.
The event is set to take place from the Osaka Castle Hall in Osaka, Japan on October 25, and will air live on HDNet.
The main event for the card will be a lightweight bout between Eddie Alvarez and Katsunori Kikuno. Also announced for the event is another lightweight match-up Kuniyoshi Hironaka and Won Sik Park.
Today DREAM announced that the recent changes to the normal format will only take place once a year, also referencing the brand’s recent partnership with Strikeforce as a negotiating factor behind the decision to give the changes a shot.

You got any notice of whos gonna be on the card Cory? I would hope they would be smart enough to put fighters in there who could adapt there style to the cage ie…Kawajiri, Jacare, and Filho.
This is great since it’ll cause the fighters who haven’t fought in a cage before to adapt themselves .
Edited just for you edub
Thanx man!!
Should be a good one. I know a lot of people are thinking Kikuno is over is head here, but I think itll be a great matchup with Kikuno coming off the dominant victory over Amade.
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
man DREAM just keeps getting better and better
go Eddie
Are the six sides of equal length? The diagram doesn’t look like it.
Eh, I think this is kind of weird.. I don’t know why, it just doesn’t seem right..
“How are kids going to learn how to read good when they cant even fit in the building?”
“It needs to be at least three times bigger than this.”
I dont know why but Mike’s comment made me think of these quotes.
What is this? A school for ants?!
appropriately shaped like a coffin since DREAM seems to be headed to the grave
Wow first a cage maybe we can hope for drug testing next. I do think this is a good thing it seperates MMA from boxing and (gulp) pro wrestling. It would be nice if all promotions used some sort of cage so that fighters dont have to train for both. This would in the end give us better fights.
