Getting excited about this card. Was just watching the infomercial. Machida is - well, Machida. Nearly as precise as Anderson Silva. Lands 65% of his strikes (vs. avg of 35%), is the least scored on fighter in UFC history, has never even lost a round, has great clinch range with his rarely mentioned sumo, matches well against very aggressive guys. Shogun *was* an awesome aggressive fighter whose best recent win was with a nearly-40 Chuck Liddell. I'd put the odds at at least 80-20 Machida. Should be fun to watch no matter what.

Rothwell vs. Velasquez should be more interesting as far as matching up well. Haven't seen enough of the others...

* Champ Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (for light-heavyweight title) WIN: Machida
* Ben Rothwell vs. Cain Velasquez 205 WIN: Velasquez
* Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen 185 WIN: Okami
* Spencer Fisher vs. Joe Stevenson 155 WIN:Fisher (THAT'S RIGHT!)
* Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida 170 WIN:A."RUMBLE"Johnson

BigDave: You can look at the Okami fight two ways.1. It’s the UFC not showing him the respect that he deserves by giving him an up and comer and not a contender fight or..2. A chance to finally gauge where Johnson is at and if he can hang with the elite guys in the division.I choose to see it from the latter point. Either way its a win win situation. If Okami comes out and beats Rumble then it,s going to be hard for Dana to not put Okami in a title contending fight. Whereas if Rumble wins then he will be a major player in the division and can put him in the ring to face Hendo in his next supposed to be title shot.

You do realize he is not fighting Anthony Johnson don't you??

edub says:
October 6, 2009 at 2:37 pm

* Champ Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (for light-heavyweight title)
* Ben Rothwell vs. Cain Velasquez
* Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen
* Spencer Fisher vs. Joe Stevenson
* Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida

Agreed edub. If I was Okami I would seriously be looking the way of Strikeforce. He gets zero respect in the UFC because he is not a crazy personality and his style is deemed boring by many. He has wins over Tanner, Shields, Swick, Belcher, Starnes, Lister, McDonald at 185, has a record of 23-4 (7-1 in the UFC) and still can't get a title shot. They should have 2 titles, 1 for the most skilled and 1 for the guy the public likes the most.

True. Very true.

Having interpreters for each language probably would help, but you know that would probably turn fans off.

edub: “Sonnen vs Okami likely will be a bit slower”Yes this is very true. But why would you put this fight together between a guy whos probably 3rd on the MW totem pole, and a guy who is probably only a few fights behind him on the if you know you would relegate it to the undercard. In the same hand your gonna put a LW fight together between two guys who are most likely 10th and 11th in the title chase, and your gonna put it on the main card just because you think itll be more exciting. It just really annoys me. Fukin showcase Okami dammit.

At this point in both of their careers how much do wins over Liddell and Coleman convince you that this is the same Shogun from Pride? If he pulls an upset here that would certainly convince me he’s comfortable in the UFC.2 wins over a couple of 40 year old fighters who used to be great doesn’t convince me.And why is Dana saying Cain & Rothwell are gonna stand and bang? Who doesn’t think Cain isn’t going to go for a takedown to GNP as soon as possible?

I miss the Shogun who could jump in the air and stomp and use those brutal kicks he destroyed Rampage with.
I disagree that Shogun is comfortable in the UFC now. At this point in both of their careers how much do wins over Liddell and Coleman convince you that this is the same Shogun from Pride?
If he pulls an upset here that would certainly convince me he's comfortable in the UFC.
2 wins over a couple of 40 year old fighters who used to be great doesn't convince me.

And why is Dana saying Cain & Rothwell are gonna stand and bang? Who doesn't think Cain isn't going to go for a takedown to GNP as soon as possible?

I am with you on the Okami deal Edub, he is a very good fighter, if the ufc would at least have him face some top guys he may even elevate his game and not go three rounds. Really they have only matched hi against one top guy in Ace and he did fight very good in that fight almost tearing Richs arm off at one point. Give him Nate, or Palharis- even Maia to show people he can hang with thoes guys.

"Sonnen vs Okami likely will be a bit slower"

Yes this is very true.

Edub- although Okami has erned the right to be on the main card Neer vs Tibau will probably be a much better fight, as Neer is never in a boring fight. Sonnen vs Okami likely will be a bit slower, I think Okami will get the ko tko here.

* Champ Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (for light-heavyweight title)
* Ben Rothwell vs. Cain Velasquez
* Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen
* Spencer Fisher vs. Joe Stevenson
* Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida

This is what the main card should look like.
