Saw the same thing when Oscar De La Hoya was trying to make a come back in boxing. He was given decisions he clearly lost because boxing wanted the crowd he drew. As it is, that kind of judging that was in boxing is one of bigger nails in the coffin for boxing. I really hope they don’t do it to MMA.

I’m still in disbelief, and I know there’s nothing they can do. There really won’t be justice for this.

Just so we are all clear and informed.

the judges are appointed and assigned by the CSAC, as are the ref’s . Not the UFC.

    I actually did have it 48-47 Machida……

Noooo no i didnt. Rounds 1 & 2 were pretty close. I had Machida winning the third, and Rua winning the 4th and 5th. I guess you could give the first two to Machida, but I didnt. I personally had it 49-48. With the first two rounds being a draw. Its closer than a lot of people think IMO, but still a robbery.

I think they gotta do an immediate rematch. I was really looking forward to a Shogun/Anderson Silva fight. Shogun fought as perfect as a fight as you can against machida. Kinda wonder if he could do it again.

I know eh, and especially since if they had a rematch, Shogun would need to rework a new gameplan that didn’t rely so heavily on leg kicks. We all know how hard a gameplan is to make against Machida. Is it so much to ask for the idiot ref’s to get it right the first time?

I personally thought the commentary was a little biased and misleading to the viewers… the first two rounds were close but i had Machida edging it out and taking the third as well… close fight hard to judge and Shogun deserves an immediate rematch

I wasn’t that concerned about the Velasquez fight being called so fast. I would have rather seen a more obvious call but it looked like all he did was save Ben an even bigger concussion, and stopped his face from being turned into jelly.

Its a sad day in MMA world..Something isnt right there with the judges , this takes me back to boxing and the coruption that ruined the sport..It was sad to see his face…Total BS..

  12. Makington says:

Because there isn’t anything they can do about what happened tonight. It’s not like Dana can just sneak up behind Lyoto during the post fight presser and sneak the belt over to Shogun and act like everyone just misheard the last half hour of their life.

A rematch is the closest thing to justice, even though I am with edub, Shogun did the fight so perfect that I don’t think he could do it again, and he definitely couldn’t do it with the same plan.

I dont know if thats against me man, but I agree it was a bad decision. Just the way the rounds are scored it was bound to be closer than we all thought. Damage needs to be addressed in scoring. Rua did at least twice the amount of damage in that fight.

On a side note. Mazzagatti needs to be relieved of his duties. If I was a fighter I would argue with all my power to not have him ref one of my fights. He almost seems power hungry in the cage.

@ paddlos, that’s exactly what I was saying about my De La Hoya comment. You could see it on Shogun’s face. He was too much of a gentleman to admit outright that the judging was skewered.

I think Shogun won by the way. I gave him it 4 rounds to 1, so ease up a little. What I’m saying is there is no way Shogun can do anything about the judges now. Anthony Johnson couldn’t even get his decision overturned after he got his eye ball pushed somewhere in the back of his skull.

The only way for Shogun to get the belt is to beat Machida again, simple.

  21. MMA-LOGIC says:
RESULT WAS FIXED!!!!!! I think an inquiry should be held into this. Rua hit more often, harder and did more damage was more aggressive(octagon control) and there were no take downs to cloud things, so what area did Machida win in?. It was FIXED! Too much money involved in a Randy vs Machida fight for the UFC to let Rua win…WHICH HE DID!.
    Rothwell was fine too.

FUCK THIS SHIT!!!! Shogun put on a beautiful performance, but was still robbed! I really don’t know what to say besides that. If you think Machida won, then you are retarded! Simple as that! Machida fans don’t have much to grasp onto here!

I was already a believer of Velasquez, but I don’t like his chances against Lesnar, or possibly Carwin. I just don’t think he would be able to toss them around with the ease he does everyone else. I would be pulling for him and I hope he gets the shot but I don’t know if he has the strength to control them everywhere.

I think everyone is taking this too lightly. Shogun was robbed fans were robbed people who put money on him were robbed literally. I think this is a legal matter and I think that there is something that can be done about it. I don’t figure UFC fans for boy-cotters – but are there any people with legal backgrounds that have an idea about how to take action on this matter. There might be worse travesties in the world, but I personally can’t let this rest. The UFC means too much to me.

Listen – Everybody who saw the fight, including the three judges, knows that Shogun won the fight. I think the way to rectify this situation would be for UFC president Dana White to publicly and explicitly denounce the credibility (or at least the competency) of all three judges and also pay Shogun out of his own pocket the prize money he should have won! I think if enough people write letters and call to pressure Dana White into doing that he might. And he might also take steps to change the judges -whatever steps those might be – he’s the president and it’s his business thats being soiled and it’s he who should fix it – if not the CSAC.

Mazzagatti SUCKS !!! This ISN’T the first time he’s f~cked up either, Dana White evens voices his opinion (surprise, surprise) on his dislike for Mazzagatti, SOMEONE SHOULD START A “MAZZAGATTI SHOULD ‘NT REF ANYBODY.COM” site. For real tho. Granted Cain was ALL over Ben Rothwell, but these guys are pro, THEY GET PUNCHED IN THE FACE FOR A LIVING ! Rothwell WAS STANDING UP ! UNDER HIS OWN POWER, those punches might really hurt you and me (not so much me..just kidding) but he was still in the process of cage walking up to his feet. He wasnt getting smashed like Mir vs. Lesnar smashed. NOW, Mazzagatii takes away someones ten year in the making debut. EVEN CAIN SAID IT SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN STOPPED SO SOON. AND WE ALL KNOW ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN A FIGHT, (even tho, Rothwell probably still would of lost.)You can gain alot of respect for a fighter even when he loses ( jason “MAYHEM” miller vs. GSP). BESIDES ALL THAT CAIN IS A BEAST !! I THINK HE’S ABOUT 2-3 FIGHTS AWAY FROM A TITLE SHOT, NOT THAT HE DOESNT DESERVE ONE NOW, HE DOES 4 SURE, BUT JUST TO GET A LITTLE MORE PRIMED, and hit the weights a little more, Lesnar and Carwin ARE STRONG M.F-ers. so..who’s gonna start the MAZZAGATTI SHOULD ‘NT REF ANYBODY.COM ?

I think that whole “fixed” idea, isnt a bad argument. EVERY PRO SPORT HAS HAD SOME KIND OF FIXED, THROWN, DROPPED etc. thing happen to it. It just makes you wonder if / when it will happen here. I have only watched the fight once, BUT I HAD RUA WINNING W/ OUT A DOUBT. Ther is ALOT OF MONEY INVOLVED IN THIS FIGHT, AND IT WOULD BE EASIER TO FIX THAN FOOTBALL, BASKET & BASEBALL. BUT…THE CHANCES OF THIS ONE ARE…UM.. I dont know, Machida was a 4 – 1 favorite, MMa-Logic has a point.

I dont think the fight was fixed in the traditional sense (like coleman v takada). However I do think that it was not on the up and up. What is the end game? i dont know. Why? again I dont know. But with the UFC structered the way it is there is no accountability. I love this sport and it bothers me to see it head down the path of entertainment rather than sport. Its worried me for awhile, with the staged trash talk, the television show, and Danas schorched earth business policy. Ive always feared that a fix of some sort was not a matter of if but when. im not a Machida hater im a huge fan he was the back end of a 4 fight parlay(yes im keeping the cash). ill say it again i dont think it was a blatant fix, but somethings up. i would love to hear the justification on the scoring.
