Lesnar forced to pull out of UFC 106 UPDATED!!

It appears  UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has been forced to pull out of his November 21st title defense against Shane Carwin.

The news was first reported by Yahoo Sports.   The report indicated that  Lesnar contacted  UFC president Dana White to inform him that he has been ill for close to a month and has been unsuccessful in  shaking the illness.

“He said he’s never been this sick in his life,” White told Yahoo. “He said it’s been going on for a long time and he just hasn’t been able to shake it.”

With Lesnar out, it is uncertain if Carwin will fight on the card against another opponent, or if the UFC will set the wheels in motion to find a replacement main event fight.

In a late afternoon Tweet, Shane Carwin indicates  the fight will be moved to UFC 108 in January, and the possibility that Lesnar has the dreaded H1N1 virus.

I just heard from Jason. Looks like it is posponed till Jan 2. I had h1ni myself and I understand how devastaing it can be.

This sucks but hopefully it isnt anything really serious, although being sick for a month is not great. Hopefully we will see this fight early next year.

I’m curious to see what they do here. I think they could make Carwin v Nog if Nog is ready for it. Or they could just push this title fight back a into January.

If I was Carwin I would wait while the fight was pushed back, but a fight against Nog would be classic. Nog looked great against 225lb 44 year old Couture but does anybody think he could take 270lb Carwin, I dont.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 10 Thumb down 4

Nog is not coming in on 3 weeks notice people.

The best chance of anything happening is
Cain – He is in shape and probably healthy, it was a relativeley easy fight and qucik fight.
Carwin waiting until Dec or Jan and add it to another card.

Why would Carwin want to pass on the title fight and the cash PPV % bonus and fight someone else?

Berry is ready but not healthy
There is no one. It would have to be someone they would push a title shot if they beat Carwin.

fanoftna33: Chuck did it when he fought Babalu the first time, and Carwin was going to fight Cain originally. If he wants to talk about fighting for the fans then let him go out(Carwin) and give us a great fight regardless if its for the title or not. Fighting a guy like Nog would be great experience espacially for a guy with only 11 fights.

And if you lose to Big Nog, you lose for 40 K . and maybe never sniff a title shot. You wait and beat Lesnar. You either lose for 40k and have had your shot, or Win and line up a big raise.

Careers are short, times have changed.

Not to mention it’s going to be hell on 3 1/2 weeks notice to find a suitable replacement.

Did you really just say Barry is ready? The guy is a long way from ready for the top guys, even though I was impressed with his performance on Saturday.

I suggested Nog because I think UFC will try and bolster this card in some way shape or form. I would agree that Carwin will probably not take that fight unless UFC made it very worth his while $$$. I would be willing to bet Nog is in the gym getting his brother, and Dos Santos ready for their upcoming fights, so he might be willing to take a fight on short notice, maybe against Velasquez? I’m just throwing some ideas out there, the next couple of days will be pretty interesting to see if UFC does anything else with this card.

Like David is implying, it comes down to Carwin’s decision as there is no shortage of ppl who would step up to fight carwin.

This fight gets postponed. End of story.

dpk, cain vs nog is a good fight and judging by the press conference dana wants at least another fight out of cain before he gets his shot. One would think same goes for nog aswell as a victory over Randy shouldn’t automatically put someone in the no.2 contender spot. Why not put them in together and fight it out?

MrBFreak: Im willing to bet that they replace the fight with shogun vs macheta and then move the lesner vs carwin til superbowl weekend, or the new years fight, but im guessing the superbowl.

Neither will be over medical suspensions by them, nor would Ed Sorres allow Machida to fight Shogun again without recovery and a proper fight camp.

Oh and always Remember Cerone vs. Henderson took place , and now Cerone doesn’t have his title shot.

Next title shot = Big Nog vs Carwin/Lesnar winner, for 106 I would do Cain vs Dos Santos…now THAT would be awsome considering those 2 are the hungriest of the young lions out there. Also, Anthony Johnson vs Josh Koschek on a future card (or 106 since they both never have issues fighting on short notice).

They need an entirely new fight all together. If Carwin loses the replacement match in this position, it would be a catastrophe. We’d be looking at him landing in the same ditch on the side of the road that Kampmann did ever losing to Daley. It’s a shame Cain’s win against Rothwell wasn’t two UFCs ago, because he could step up and it would make for an awesome #1 contender battle royal.

well i heard that Brock has swine flu which is known as H1N1, but im not sure if that’s true. He lives in Alexandria which is 3 hours from where Im at and we have swine flu just coming into North Dakota from Minnesota. So hopefully he gets well soon cuz people have been dying from that up here.

Yeh, you dont even have to be smart to realise that. It would the most stupid thing ever for Carwin to accept a replacement fight lol. I mean, really stupid on his behalf. He will wait for his shot if he has an ounce of common sense. Because the risk of losing to another top contender is huge. And his title shot would just be pushed back. And he may not even end up getting one at all!!!

Hmm i think Valesques has done enough to earn his shot. However, since Lesnar vs Carwin is being moved back… then So Nogs shot will get moved back… So that means Cain and Nog are going to be out of action for a while… So yeh.. maybe let Nog have a break. And stick Dos Santos vs Valesquez into the picture for the next title shot after Nog has had his chance. Or alternatively, have Nog vs Valesquez. I dont know, but Lesnar not fighting has messed things up slightly lol.

Dos Santos vs. Velasquez will be awesome – has to happen soon. Both are looking very good and on the rise. Nog definitely deserves the next title shot – the guy’s a legend – but that probably won’t happen soon, especially with Lesnar post-poning. Nog should fight Mir in the meantime and try to avenge that loss. I’m glad the heavyweight division is rockin again.

Let Cain go in and beat up carwin now so he can get his rightful title shot. He was screwed out of a #1 contenders match now he should get it back.

I hope Carwin still fights. I know it is quite a risk to fight with the title shot in hand already, but he strikes me as a person that doesnt look at things that way. IMO carwin would see it as an oppurtunity to have another payday and an oppurtunity to fight for the fans, as he strikes me as a guy who actualy does relish the fan support.

Where this hits a snag is I dont think anyone is going to agree to fight him on 4 weeks notice.

Read a lot of post on several sites this afternoon, and have to say 5 ozs. has the highest level of intelligent comments regarding this fight being postponed.

Lesnar and Carwin have both worked hard to merit this bout, and its gratifying to me to see so many guys giving both of these fighters the respect they deserve. Too many idiots out there still hating on Lesnar for coming from entertainment wrestling, and too many inexperienced fans questioning Carwin’s having earned this title shot. Lesnar is the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, and Carwin is among the strongest of the up and coming heavyweights. When they do fight, it should be an excellent contest, and this is one fan who will be highly anticipating this clash of the titans.

  27. RU486 says:

For the most part everyone’s been suggesting heavyweight matchups that hardly merit being the main event. Instead pull in GSP or BJ Penn for title fights. I know BJ is scheduled to fight 3 weeks later, so BJ vs Diego as main event and Tito vs Forrest as co-main event. That would give them 6 weeks to line up a main event for UFC 107. By then Nog would be ready, and so would Cain. Machida and Shogun would be off suspensions, and hell…. even that rumored Chuck vs Kimbo fight could be lined up by then. There would be many options for them by December.
