Undefeated 16-0 featherweight prospect Brandon Visher has signed a multi-fight contract with Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting.
The Maui News in Hawaii was the first to report the news of Visher’s signing, which was believed to have taken place earlier this month.
The 25-year old Visher is a native of Kula, Hawaii has competed for such famed Hawaiian MMA promotions as Rumble of the Rock and X-1. Nicknamed “The Viper,” Visher is currently the 145 lbs. champion of the Up & Up Extreme Cagefighting promotion.
When speaking with the Maui News, Visher credited his camp for helping him earn a shot with the WEC.
”Shawn Doyle, the owner of Peak Performance, went to Vegas and really just went door to door with my highlight tape,” Visher is quoted as saying. ”He was really persistent. The guy he talked to at WEC said, ‘You know how many times a day I hear the same thing you’re telling me about a fighter?’ But he promised to watch the tape and I guess he liked what he saw.”
Reed Harris, the General Manager of the WEC believes that Visher has the potential to challenge for the WEC’s 145 lbs. title currently held by Mike Brown.
”When a guy comes in, he has to be competitive. We don’t bring people in unless we think they can compete for the title,” Harris told the Maui News. ”What that means is Visher is considered by us to be among the elite.”
