In light of reports in the Maui News that Brandon Visher has signed with the WEC and MMAjunkie.com’s report that Chad Mendes has also inked a deal with the promotion as well, comes word that blue chip prospect Tyler Toner will also be joining Visher and Mendes as new additions to the WEC’s 145 lbs. division.
News of Toner’s signing with the WEC was first revealed publicly in the Maui News and has since been confirmed by FiveOuncesOfPain.com with sources close to the fighter.
Toner’s debut with the WEC could take place as early as Dec. 19 at WEC 45 at the Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to the Maui News, Toner is set to face Visher, but Five Ounces of Pain was unable to confirm the report.
The current Ring of Fire featherweight champion, Toner is widely regarded as one of the top prospects currently involved with the Colorado mixed martial arts scene.
Toner, who trains out of Easton BJJ, improved to 9-1 following a unanimous decision victory this past August against Fabio Serrao at “Ring of Fire 35: Summer Brawl.” His lone loss took place in April of 2007 against current WEC bantamweight Scott Jorgensen courtesy of a defeat via unanimous decision.
