Also Machida might have come out of nowhere, but he was always an amazing fighter. This guy had beaten Stephan Bonnar, BJ Penn, and Rich Franklin all before coming to the UFC mind you. Had Matt Veach beaten Josh Thomson or Shinya Aoki, I would have a completely different view on the guy. It's the same situation Martin Kampmann was in. He was set to take a fight with title shot implications, then because of Swick's injury he took a different fight. We all know how he's ranked now. Also, who's going to be excited for this fight? It would just make for such a better fight if he was fighting a legit contender. Still a pointless fight for Edgar.
