Jamie Varner vs. Benson Henderson official for WEC 46
World Extreme Cagefighting has recently announced that a lightweight title unification bout between Jamie Varner and Benson Henderson is all set to headline WEC 46.
Although both fighters had previously expressed their desire for the bout to take place in their mutual hometown of Arizona, the card is set to take place on January 10 from the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California.
Also officially announced for the card is a featherweight showdown between Urijah Faber and Raphael Assuncao.
Varner will be making his first return to the cage since his split decision victory over Donald Cerrone on January of this year after injuries suffered in that bout forced the WEC lightweight champion to the sidelines for the bulk of 2009, while Henderson is fresh off of the heels of the his grueling decision victory over Cerrone to obtain the WEC interim lightweight strap.
Faber will be returning for the first time since a hand injury in his previous defeat at the hands of Mike Brown in June of this year temporarily put “The California Kid” on the shelf, while Assuncao is currently riding a six fight win streak, with his most recent victory coming over Yves Jabouin at WEC 43 in October.

yeah these wec cards of late have definatley kicked ass.Thesare going to be 2 very exciting fights. I’m a go with ben henderson via ud just becuase i really hate jaime varner and i’m a go with uriaj via 2nd rd tko.

very exciting card! im looking for benhen to use a gsp style gameplan and utilize his superior wrestling to nullify varner’s strikes. im counting on varners long layoff to hurt him in the earlier rounds while he tries to find his rhythm, benhen’s quick turn around between fights should help shake off any jitters and put him in a real position to snatch that title. -henderson via gnp tko or ud. im also hoping that faber will return to put out the fire assuncao has been starting. hopefully his hand is fully repaired so he can properly strike. i can see urijah coming out with a 2nd or 3rd tko.
