Roger Gracie vs. Kevin Randleman set for May 15 Strikeforce

Roger Gracie is expected to make his Strikeforce debut during the promotion’s May 15 event against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Kevin “The Monster” Randleman according to

Roger has a 2-0 record with a victory over Ron Waterman at Bodog: USA vs. Russia, and a victory over Pancrase veteran Yuki Kondo at Sengoku 2. Gracie ran into issues with Sengoku promoters after making the claim that he was injured, the promotion claimed that he was not injured and refused to put him on any more cards. Gracie signed with the promotion in December of 2009, with the hopes to make a splash in American MMA.

Randleman hasn’t won a fight since May of 2008, and his Strikeforce debut against Mike Whitehead was a particularly painful fight to watch, as it seemed like Randleman ran out of gas within the first few minutes of the fight. Randleman is 2-7 since his now famous upset knockout victory against Mirko Cro Cop in 2004.

A few years ago I would have been pumped to watch Randleman take on a Gracie, but he’s sucked in all of his recent fights I’ve seen, and Roger Gracie isn’t exactly a world beater.
I’ll probably still end up watching the fight because mma is always better to watch than just about anything else, but this isn’t one of those bouts I’m gonna lose sleep the night before in anticipation.

Just some more “names” that SF can throw around to hope to bring in the viewership… oh so clever.

This would have been a great fight if Randleman was in his prime, but now not so much. If Kevin comes in ready to go 3 rounds the it could be interesting as Gracie probably cant take him down and Kevin does pack quite the punch. A tough first SF fight though.

Gracie subs what’s left of the monster probably late 1st early 2nd round. Too bad about Randleman so much unfulfilled promise. It was nice of SF to give him a chance though. I hope he puts up a good fight.
