Earlier this week, news came out about a fight between John Howard and Jake Ellenberger at UFC on Versus 2. Today, another great has been added to the card as Takanari Gomi will make his return to the Octagon in an attempt to get his first victory in the UFC against the always tough winner of the second season of the Ultimate Fighter Season 2, Joe “Daddy” Stevenson according to a recent report on MMAWeekly.
Stevenson is looking to remain relevant in the very tough lightweight division after he suffered a surprise loss to George Sotiropoulos at UFC 110. Stevenson was on the comeback trail after suffering back-to-back losses to Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez, by picking up victories against Nate Diaz in Spencer Fisher in 2009. Stevenson is looking to return to contender status in the promotion, and a victory over the PRIDE lightweight Kingpin might just do that.
Gomi made his debut against Kenny Florian at UFC Fight Night 21, and was dominated for most of the fight, and Florian finished him with a Rear Naked Choke in the third round. Gomi was one of the top lightweights in the world at one point, and many were rumoring that Gomi would get a title shot if he had defeated Florian in his debut.
UFC on Versus 2 will take on August 1, and will emanate from the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
