Don’t taunt at the beginning of the fight dumby. You’re brother got away with it against Lawler after he was clearly winning the exchanges.

Gray looked ok for the 3 minutes he fought. I appreciate the wrestling abilities but he never throws at all and doesn’t even set up the takedown. He just waits and waits. $50 bucks for A Maynard headlined card? Ughh.

I can’t believe how inefficient Maia has been on the ground so far. He’s clearly been dominating the fight, but I’ve never seen him have so many dominant positions and not even come close to locking in a sub.

I wish Mia would have stopped going for the sub. His GnP was looking really effective in this fight. Yeah, I just said Mia and GnP.

Completely agree MCM. In that 2nd round when he was softening up Miranda from the mount I was sitting there thinking, “Maia could get himself a TKO here if he keeps it up.”
But nope. He’d rather go for a sub, ignore the legs, end up on his feet. Lather, rinse and repeat. Blah.

2 Rounds to Edgar so far.
BJ needs to work that kick more. When he was doing that at the beginning of the 2nd round he was giving Edgar something else to worry about and as a result his punches were landing more as well.

Edgar beat BJ in every aspect of the game tonight. He absolutely deserves his belt and I have to move him to the #1 position in my LW ranking.
BJ needs to get back in the gym, work on his cardio, and get back in the cage as soon as possible. Losing twice in a row, both to the same guy has got to hurt his confidence. If he’s gonna build it back up he needs to get on it as soon as he can.

According to fightmetric, Toney threw 6 punches and landed 4.
The problem is that Couture threw 50 and landed 41. But he also got 1 takedown, 1 mount, and 2 arm triangles.
Oh, and they credited Toney with 1 tapout as well.

Edgar vs Penn was very fun to watch, I feel the same way abiut Edgar as I do about Randy- never count him out.

Agree or Disagree:

Injured or not, Penn lost that fight largely due to his mental game. I’m not saying Edgar didn’t win the physical game as well, but he crushed Penn’s confidence early and he never let him get it back.
Penn looked pretty good in the first until Edgar got him with a takedown, then for the rest of the round he looked cautious and kinda concerned.
Penn looked pretty good in the second until about halfway through when Edgar got him on the ground multiple times. But after that he looked worried.
Penn looked terrible in the 3rd from bell to bell.
Then in the 4th Penn came out and looked like he was tired of playing and it was time to fight. He took Edgar down, got mount, and almost got back control, but after Edgar got out of that you could just see any remaining fight just drain out of him.
5th round was just Penn going through the motions. He had a couple of moments there where he looked like he was still in it, but before Penn could really establish any sort of edge, Edgar took it away.
Complete dominance by Edgar in the physical game and in the mental game.

A really good and interesting card all around. I love that Grey and Kenny were on the card with BJ and Franky, gave Franky alot of modivation when he saw the Dominating performance by Gray.
Toney is the man for stepping up but the fool for thinking being stocky would be enough. I think he really thought that Couture would stand up and box him.
Damian didn’t impress me again although he is worth watching from time to time and Nate made it easy against a tired and aging fast Marcus Davis, I really saw him going for a title at one time.
Really good card. I can see Franky beating Gray and really holding the belt for the next couple of years. I am really really really hoping they lineup BJ to and the “Fire Ball Kid”next.

Great card. Better than I expected
I think if Diaz stays at 170 he could put on exciting fight and possibly beat most of the 170 division. Would really like to see him v. Hardy, Fitch and loser of GSP/ Kos
KenFlo looked outclassed the entire match which was surprising. Maynard is boring but, he got the job done and that is what counts.
They hyped Maia like he was the best submission artist ever and he won all those titles etc but, he couldn’t put away someone who was totally outclassed on the ground and left himself open to submissions the entire match.
Couture/Toney went exactly as expected. Toney has no answer for takedowns and he was on his back in about 15 seconds. Toney should consider himself lucky he was fighting Couture. Alot of other wrestlers would have used position to punish him even more. Making him submit must have felt awesome after all the noise Toney has been making lately about the easy KO.
Edgar completely outworked BJ. I think BJ went from being focused to obsessed. Nothing wrong with training for an opponent hard but, I think his ego said” I’m BJ Penn, I am the best EVER. How can that little twirp think he can beat me I had at least 5 excuses why the previous match was a fluke” He convinced himself that he could just walk in and be BJ Penn and that would be enough. It wasn’t. At least he was classy in defeat. Still one of the best ever but, Edgar has his number.

I’ve never been so happy to get a prediction wrong in my life. Watching Penn get outworked outclassed and flat out dominated was great. I hope he never gets another title shot because he is such a whiny little bitch, with no class.

Oh and i forgot to mention, am I the only one that realizes Penn is 6-6 in the last 5 years. So much for anyone that would have him on a top pound for pound list.
Agree or Disagree:
1

He may be 6-6 in the last 5 years, but those 6 losses are to Edgar x2, GSP x2, Hughes, and Lyoto Machida.
The only one of those fighters that’s in his natural weight class is Edgar.
And lets be honest, anyone who’s gone against GSP more than once has lost to him, he too Hughes on short notice while Hughes was still in his old form, and when he fought Lyoto, BJ was 40 pounds above his natural weight came in 30 pounds lighter than Lyoto anyways, and still lasted 15 minutes with him.
At LW he’s 12-3-1 with all 3 losses and that draw being title fights.
At WW he’s 1-3 going 1-2 in title fights and the last loss being in a #1 contender fight
At MW he’s 2-0
And at whatever weightclass is 191-220, he’s 0-1.
So the reason he’s on so many P4P lists is because he fights at so many weight classes, against legends in the sport, and wins in most of them.

Didn’t have the $ to buy… But Joe’s fight was great… after that though it sounded like that it was not the best card… Am I right guys ??? Also did anyone really buy into the Couture/Toney fight because they couldn’t sell that crap to me….Nothing against Randy… Time to find some up and comers Quit being lazy…If you remember it is the freak show thing that got us banned all over in the first place….
Agree or Disagree:

The reason James Toney even got a shot wasn’t the freak show aspect it was his mouth. He was all over the sports media running his mouth making sure someone/anyone heard him.
If Dana White had ignored him and let him run his mouth calling out UFC and MMA in general and not being allowed to prove himself Dana and the UFC would have looked bad.
Toney got what he asked for and then some. Like I said before he is lucky Couture went easy on him. Toney was calling out Lesnar. I don’t think Brock would have been so nice to him. He turned Mir’s face into hamburger and Toney isn’t even the same universe with Mir as far as ground game.
Toney got his ass handed to him, Dana proved his point, Couture picked up an easy check. All is well.

It wasn’t the freak show aspect that got MMA banned in the US, it was the almost complete lack of rules.
Besides having no weight classes, no round limits, and judging system, if you look back at some of the first UFC events you’ll see things like “Submission (Chin to the Eye)” and headbutts, hair pulling, strikes to the back of the neck and head, and even groin shots were legal up until UFC 15.
