Bantamweight title up for grabs at Bellator 32

Fans planning to attend Bellator 32 in Kansas City on October 14th will be treated to a double-dose of championship action at the event, as Bellator Fighting Championships has officially announced 135-pound tournament finalists Ed “Wild” West and Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky will face off on the card alongside the already planned heavyweight bout between Cole Konrad and Neil Grove.

“Our bantamweight division has been fiercely competitive from the first fight, so whether it’s Ed or Zach who captures this world title, they’ll have earned it every step of the way,” said Bellator’s chief executive, Bjorn Rebney, in a press release to media. “Both of these guys are tremendously talented, great competitors and true sportsman. This has the makings of a really great world title fight”

West will enter the match-up having previously won seven consecutive bouts. He has only been finished once in a nineteen-fight career, a TKO loss coming more than six years ago. As such, the inherent difficult of beating him is certainly something that hasn’t escaped Makovsky.

“Ed is going to be a huge challenge, and probably the most well-rounded fighter I have faced. I’m excited to see what I can do,” said the 27-year old. Makovsky is 11-2 overall and has emerged victorious the last five times he’s stepped into the ring.

“I’ve definitely had to train differently for not only Zach, but the fight itself,” said West in reference to the twenty-five minute structure of a title-bout as well as his similarly-skilled opponent. ”As the fight moves on it will become harder and harder to lock up a submission, and our endurance levels need to be taken to the next level. It’s going to be a war,” he continued.

However, West appears ready for battle as it were, and is fully aware of the opportunity being offered at Bellator 32.

“Winning the championship would be more important than anything I have done in the MMA world. To win this tournament, you have to win three incredibly tough fights in six weeks. If you can pull that off, it speaks volumes, and it would take my game to the next level.”

Tune in Thursday, October 14th on Fox Sports to find out if West will achieve that very goal or whether Makovsky will walk away with a victory sweeter than the candy bars his nickname is derived from!
