“Jacare” expresses interest in UFC, satisfaction with Strikeforce

Since debuting for Strikeforce in December 2009, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza has racked up three straight wins in addition to the promotion’s middleweight title by outpointing Tim Kennedy last August in Houston, Texas. He is a multi-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion and has emerged hands-raised in thirteen of his last fourteen bouts. However, while accomplishing even one of those things might be enough for the average individual, “Jacare” has proven time and time again he is anything but typical.

The submission-specialist recently spoke to Tatame about his desire to become the top 185-pounder in MMA as well as an interest in eventually testing himself inside the Octagon.

“I feel pretty good being the current champion of Strikeforce, but I want more than that,” said the 30-year old BJJ blackbelt. “I’d like to fight (in the) UFC, but for now I’m cool on Strikeforce and I don’t intend to leave the event.”

“I want to become the number one in my division,” he continued. ”I want to win more titles – it’s all just starting for me.”

Souza is 14-2 in his career with ten submission victories to his credit. In addition to his recent championship-win over Kennedy, he’s found in-ring success against the likes of Joey Villasenor, Matt Lindland, and Jason “Mayhem” Miller.
