Cain Velasquez scores $70,000 bonus with championship win

Freshly crowned UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez not only took home a promotional title with his TKO victory over Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 but was also awarded “Knockout of the Night” and an extra $70,000 based on the performance.

News of the bonus was announced at the post-event press conference.

Also earning an additional check for their showing in Anaheim, Diego Sanchez and Paulo Thiago were given the show’s “Fight of the Night” distinction. Sanchez and Thiago battled for three full rounds with a handful of near-finishes taking place along the way for both welterweights.

Finally, Daniel Roberts picked up “Submission of the Night” on top of his eleventh career victory for his first-round Anaconda Choke of opponent Mike Guymon. The tap-out inducing technique came a little more than a minute into their preliminary match-up.

I agree with everyone of these choices.

Cain obviously deserves the KOotN after dismantling the champ and taking almost no damage in the process.

Sanchez/Thiago was absolutely amazing. I didn’t give Sanchez much of a chance coming into this fight, and after the 1st round I was feeling pretty confident in my choice. But man, something in his head just snapped in the 2nd round and The Nightmare came back. Props to both Sanchez and Thiago for that war.

Roberts’s anaconda choke was one of the prettiest submissions I’ve seen in a while. Going from standing and rolling through like that was beautiful.

Yep, Brock got exposed. That muscle is hard to feed. Now I’ll admit that there’s a strong possibility that Fedor is no longer the greatest heavyweught in the world but I’d love to see him in the ufc’s heavyweight division. There’s loads of great fights for him in the ufc. It’s a damn shame his management sucks balls.
Ah well. Looking forward to the JDS fight now and seeing how Brock bounces back.
