Bellator 34 caps season off with history-making event

The timeless principle that “all good things come to an end” was on display Thursday night in Hollywood, Florida as previously undefeated female fighter Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii fell for the first time in her 22-fight career. Fujii was beaten via split decision at Bellator 34 by 10-1 Zoila Frausto who as a result became the promotion’s first women’s champion. The win was Frausto’s fifth in a row.

Also walking away with a point-based victory and an attached-title was Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard. The 27-2 Cuban, who hasn’t lost since November 2006 to Gegard Mousasi, retained his Bellator middleweight belt by defeating 185-pound contender Alexander Shlemenko in the evening’s main event. Shlemenko had been riding a six-fight win streak entering the bout. Interestingly, Lombard took a page from Eddie Alvarez’s book and used the opportunity provided after his victory to call out Strikeforce 185-pound champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

Here is a complete list of Bellator 34 results:

John Kelly def. William Kuhn via Unanimous Decision
Ralph Acosta def. Tulio Quintanilla via Split Decision

Mike Bernhard def. Dragan Teasnovic via Unanimous Decision

Shlemenko was game the whole way, if his boxing and TDD were better then I feel like he could’ve won the last 3 rounds.

Zoila was awesome. She made the most out of the opportunity for sure. Stayed away and used range and avoided the ground like a plague. A few right upper cuts toward the end and she would have had the KO. I’m stoked for her.

Shlemenko made that fight interesting at least. Lombard is just a beast. I thought when they went into 4 and 5 his gas would really run out, but despite his stalling tactics he didn’t leave himself open to much damage. Great fight. I bet Shlemenko is going to have an epic headache.

Does anyone else think that Lombard is on his own at Bellator?. I hope he, along with Alverez, co-promotes and quickly.

That’s funny. I put a good whack down the first time I saw her picture.

Zoila IS the warrior princess. However, her skills are not fully-baked yet and she has a lot of room for improvement. Hope she learns to box instead of that wild looping punches thing. She whiffed more times last night than Ryan Howard does in an entire season. Also hope that last night was the last time we’ll see her fight at 115 lbs. Think the drastic weight-cutting will shorten her career in the long-run.

Jimmy Smith(Fox Sports TV Bellator announcer)scored it 4 rounds to 1 for Fujii……the exact same score one of the judges scored it but this particular judge had 4-1 for(49-46) Fausto……… Stick to announcing Jimmy cuz we have enough pathetic MMA judges already.

I didn’t feel Zoila won that fight at all. 49-46… MMA judges suck.
