Changes afoot for November 19th Strikeforce Challengers event

Fans anxious to see Ryan Couture’s attempt at winning the second professional MMA bout of his career will unfortunately have to wait a bit longer, as Strikeforce has issued a press release stating the son of UFC legend Randy Couture has been scratched from a November 19th “Strikeforce Challengers” event scheduled for Jackson, Mississippi.

The change was made due to a staph infection Couture picked up while training that will apparently keep him out of action for about a month. “”I was really looking forward to fighting so this is a big disappointment, but I’ll be back,” said the 28-year old. “As soon as I’m cleared, you can bet I’ll be back in the gym preparing for my next Strikeforce fight.”

However, while Strikeforce may have lost a match-up based on Couture’s ailment, the card also gained a pair of bouts according to an official statement from the promotion.

Jan Finney, who had won four consecutive fights before falling to women’s champ Cris “Cyborg” Santos last June, will take on the debuting 4-0 Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche. The pairing will also mark the return of Finney to her natural competitive weight of 135-pounds.

In addition, newcomers Caros Fodor and Derek “The Pretzel’’ Getzel will also face each other at the event.

Strikeforce Challengers 12 is headlined by a bout between 155-pounders Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro and Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox, and is also scheduled to feature light heavyweights Antwain Britt and Ovince St. Preux mixing it up.
