Urijah Faber possibly sidelined until mid-2011 with shoulder injury

Though WEC 52 was an action-packed card from top to bottom, it appears all of the event’s participants fortunately escaped without serious injuries requiring an extended absence from the ring. However, nine fighters – including Urijah Faber – were reported by the Nevada State Athletic Commission as receiving some sort of mandated break before returning to competition.

Five Ounces of Pain recently received the NSAC’s list of medical suspensions which featured a near-even split between basic 30-45 day periods and six-month stints attached with the potential of being shortened in lieu of a doctor’s approval.

Former WEC featherweight champ Faber was among the latter group, as he will be suspended from competition until 5/11/11 or until he has his left shoulder examined/cleared by an orthopedist.

Joining “The California Kid” are Javier Vazquez (nose/face), Raphael Assuncao (foot), Clint Godfrey (elbow), and Yves Jabouin (thumb).

Here is the complete rundown of WEC 52 medical suspensions:

Yves Jabouin – Suspended until 5/11/11 or until left-thumb x-rayed and cleared by an orthopedist
Clint Godfrey – Suspended until 5/11/11 or until left elbow examined/cleared by an orthopedist
Zach Micklewright – Suspended until 12/27/10, no contact until 12/12/10
Edward Faaloloto – Suspended until 12/12/10, no contact until 12/3/10 (eyebrow laceration)
Raphael Assuncao – Suspended until 5/11/11 or until right foot x-rayed and cleared by an orthopedist
Francisco Rivera – Suspended until 12/27/10, no contact until 12/12/10
Javier Vazquez – Suspended until 5/11/11 or until nasal/facial bones x-rayed and cleared by a doctor; minimum suspension until 12/27/10, no contact until 12/12/10
Takeya Mizugaki – Suspended until 12/27/10, no contact until 12/12/10
