Goran Reljic released by UFC after third consecutive loss

Croatian grappler, and protege of heavyweight icon Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Goran Reljic has been made a free agent after being outpointed by Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 122 this past weekend. The 26-year old, who was recently considered one of MMA’s upcoming prospects after compiling an 8-0 start to his career, has dropped a trio of decisions since returning from a back injury last February that had kept him out of action for the better part of two years.

Reljic’s release was confirmed by Five Ounces of Pain with sources attached to the situation.

The 8-3 submission-specialist, who also has solid stand-up, began his career in the Octagon off with a second-round, “Fight of the Night” TKO victory over Wilson Gouveia at UFC 84, but failed to find the same success after his hiatus from competition with losses to the afore-mentioned Soszynski, as well as C.B. Dollaway and Kendall Grove.

guess he was never the same after the injury huh…….

I think I’ve seen all of his UFC fights. His biggest problem imo was conditioning. He always looked gassed by the second round. And I never thought of him as a submission specialist. I don’t recall him making serious efforts to get his opponents to the ground.

  3. Subission Specialist? No shit?
