Undefeated grappler Chad Mendes will be able to further live up to his nickname of “Money” thanks to news that the 25-year old Californian has extended his professional relationship with the UFC. Mendes made his debut in the Octagon at UFC 126 en route to a unanimous decision over respected competitor Michihiro Omigawa after compiling four consecutive wins in WEC.
Word of the agreement’s finalization was announced by Mendes himself via Twitter where he gleefully explained, “It’s been a great day! Signed my UFC contract, ate some awesome sushi AND got my house refinanced! Bam!!”
Specific terms of the deal weren’t mentioned though as a starting point Mendes was reported as having made $19,000 (including a $9,500 win bonus) for his UFC 126 performance.
The Team Alpha Male training partner of Urijah Faber brought his record to 10-0 with last weekend’s victory. In addition to Omigawa, Mendes has also found success in the ring against Erik Koch, Cub Swanson, and Javier Vazquez. Six of his wins have been the result of scorecards while the remaining four are an even split between TKOs/submissions.
