Strikeforce is firing up once again with this evening’s “Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson” extravaganza in coordination with the annual Arnold Sports Festival in hopes of pumping YOU up! In co-headlining action, Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante will put his light heavyweight belt up for grabs against hard-hitting grappler Dan Henderson while 135-pound female champ Marloes Coenen defends her strap against undefeated Liz Carmouche.
Also on the main card, former Green Beret Tim Kennedy will face ferocious Dutch kickboxer Melvin Manhoef and 11-0 Billy Evangelista will look to maintain his perfect record against debuting lightweight Jorge Masvidal.
Fans can tune in to watch the festivities begin starting at 10:00 PM EST on Showtime.
As always, Five Ounces of Pain will be here to provide live coverage but this time around with special in-arena offerings from our own Jeremy Lambert. Read below as he gives you insight from the floor as well as a detailed rundown of tonight’s action:
PRELIMINARY CARD (unaired):
J.P. Felty vs. John Kuhner
Round One: Felty went for takedowns early but they were stuffed. He eventually got him down and took his back but Kuhner was right back up. Felty was constantly tagging Kuhner with a left hook. Felty managed to get a takedown with just under 2 minutes left but didn’t really do anything with it. Slow round for the most part. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Kuhner.
Round Two: Kuhner got an early takedown, quickly got the back, and tried to finish with a choke but Felty survived. Kuhner spent pretty much the entire rest of the round pounding on Kuhner from mount and back mount. Kuhner finally locked on a mounted triangle, rolled to his back, and Felty went out with about 30 seconds left in the round.

Marc Cofer vs. Mitch Whitesel
Round One: All in the clinch early with neither man getting an advantage. Not much going on in this fight. Whitesel got a takedown and tried to lock on a guillotine as Cofer got up. He managed to lock it up and Coger was forced to tap out.

Brian Rogers vs. Ian Rammell
Round One: Big right early by Rogers and then he easily stuffs a takedown. Rogers landing the straight right at will. Rammell went for another takedown, failed, and then flopped to his back. Rogers let him up and then continued to catch him with the straight right. Things started to slow down just before Rammell landed a cracking spinning backfist. Rogers tried to press forward with a flurry but Rammell evaded well. Rogers dropped Rammell with a left hook and then pounded him out until the ref jumped in to stop things.

Live Note: Rogers was very excited after the win, jumping up and down in the cage. He then went into the crowd and started to celebrate with ringside seated fans. Herschel Walker and Mike Kyle just walked by the media table. Walker caught the attention of the crowd. Big John McCarthy taking pictures with ringside fans. He’s in a hat and hoodie so don’t expect to see him referee tonight. Randy Couture just arrived. A lot of fans coming to greet him. Josh Thomson is also in the building. He’s not as popular as Couture.
Jason Riley vs. Jason Freeman
Round One: Feeling out process early before Riley dropped Freeman with a punch. Riley tried to finish but Freeman survived and got to his feet. Freeman then came back, dropped Riley with a right hand, and finished him on the ground with strikes. Really good action and a nice turn of events.

Jorge Gurgel vs. Billy Vaughan
Round One: Vaughan went for an early takedown but Gurgel stuffed it and tried to lock on a guillotine. Gurgel jumped guard with the choke and forced Vaughan to tap out.

Live Note: Antonio Silva just walked by holding his daughters hands. He caught the attention of a lot of fans. Hopefully they don’t seat him next to Barnett.Josh Thomson was right behind him, once again just blending in.
Roger Bowlingvs. Josh Thornburg
Round One: Thornburg immediately went for a guillotine but Bowling got his head out and ended up on top. Bowling landed some good punches on top before Thornburg was able to get up. Bowling was tagged Thornburg on the feet so Thornburg clinched and ate some knees for his trouble before breaking. Bowling continued to tee off on Thornburg on the feet. Thornburg landed an uppercut but Bowling got a takedown. Bowling ended up mounting Thornburg and getting his back but couldn’t finish with the choke. Bowling ended the round on top and in half guard, landing short punches. Good round for Bowling after an early scare. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Bowling.
Round Two: Quick takedown by Bowling. He got half guard but only managed to land short punches. Crowd getting restless as Bowling not doing much on top but staying just active enough not to get stood up. The ref finally stood them up with a minute and a half remaining in the round. Bowling constantly landed the left hook but Thornburg has a hell of a chin. Thornburg got a takedown right into mount but Bowling quickly swept him over into guard, where he stayed until the round ended. Good round for Bowling even if he didn’t do much damage. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Bowling.
Round Three: Bowling really loading up on his left hook this round. Thornburg got a takedown but Bowling used the cage to reverse things and end up on top and in side control. Thornburg showing a good defensive guard, not only Bowling to get any offense on top. Bowling just continued to land short punches from the guard as the crowd began to boo. The ref stood them up a minute left. Bowling landed a big right hand and then went for a takedown. Thornburg grabbed a guillotine and tried to finish but Bowling held on for the final 15 seconds to survive the round. A late scare for Bowling but otherwise it was all him. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Bowling and the fight 30-27 for Bowling.

MAIN CARD (Showtime – 10:00 PM EST)
Billy Evangelista vs. Jorge Masvidal
Round One: Masvidal working the jab early while Evangelista trying to put combos together. Masvidal got a takedown off a kick but Evangelista right back up. Long stalemate in the clinch with Evangelista controlling but took a knee on the break. Good flurry by Masvidal ending with a series of knees. Takedown by Evangelista but Masvidal tries to grab a guillotine. Masivdal up and back in the clinch. They trade knees before breaking. Masvidal landing the much cleaner shots standing. Evangelista tries a late takedown but it’s stuffed. Good round for Masvidal standing. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Masvidal.
Round Two: Evangelista pressing this round and landing some good punches. Masvidal managed to get a takedown but Evangelista was right back up. Masvidal keeps finding a home for his jab and stuffing the takedowns. Evangelista the busier of the two standing but not landing much clean. Counter right by Masvidal and that’s the biggest strike of the round so far. Masvidal got a takedown but Evangelista right back up. Evangeilsta pressing forward but still missing. Masvidal lands another right. Crowd boos a bit as the round ends. Another good round for Masvidal. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Masvidal.
Round Three: Masvidal keeps jabbing away while Evangelista keeps missing for the most part. Big right by Masvidal. Evangelista just having a hard time finding the chin of Masvidal. Crowd heavily booing now. Masvidal’s defense and jab is just way too much for Evangelista. Not the most impressive fight ever but a good performance by Masvidal. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Masvidal and the fight 30-27 for Masvidal.

Tim Kennedy vs. Melvin Manhoef
Round One: Kennedy shoots and it’s stuffed. Kennedy tried to get it down but Manhoef stayed up. Manhoef showing good takedown defense early. Big leg kick by Manhoef. Kennedy got Manhoef against the cage and finally got him down and into side control. Kennedy quickly moved to mount and got the back. Kennedy finally sunk in the choke and Manhoef was forced to tap.

Marloes Coenen vs. Liz Carmouche
Round One: Coenen working the inside leg kicks early and countering with a good straight right. Carmouche really struggling to find her range and the crowd starts to boo. They clinch and exchange positions against the cage. Nothing powerful landing and the ref breaks them after a long stalemate. Good push kicks by Conen and she continues to land the right hand. Close round but Coenen landed the cleaner strikes. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Coenen.
Round Two: Coenen starting strong with leg kicks. Carmouche clinches and takes a knee before trying for a takedown. Coenen locks on a tight guillotine and drags Carmouche down with it but Carmouche pops her head out. Carmouche postures and lands some good punches. Coenen trying for the armbar but Carmouche avoids it and gets side control. Carmouche ended up getting the mount, posturing up, and landing some good punches. Coenen covering well but Carmouche keeps pounding away. Carmouche did her best to try and finish but Coenen covered up and survived the round. Very dominant round for Carmouche but not quite enough damage to make it a 10-8. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Carmouche.
Round Three: Early clinch by Carmouche. A lot of position trading in the clinch with neither fighter gaining an advantage. Carmouche finally managed to get a takedown into side control and she moved to mount. Carmouche landing short punches from the mount as Coenen covers and tries to move. Carmouche landing a lot of strikes but they have no real power begind them and Coenen is covering well. Coenen again survives the round. Another great round for Carmouche. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Carmouche.
Round Four: Coenen got an early takedown but couldn’t do anything with it and Carmouche was back up quickly, where she got a takedown of her own. Coenen went for a triangle, locked it on, and Carmouche was forced to tap after trying to fight out.

Rafael Cavalcante vs. Dan Henderson
Round One: Feijao landing leg kicks. Henderson just missed with the right hand. Feijao clips Henderson and drops him but as Feijao trained rushing in, Henderson got the takedown. Anderson Silva is very audible in Feijao’s corner. Henderson doing nothing in the guard of Feijao. The ref finally stands them up. Henderson puts Feijao against the cage in the clinch. They trade control and short knees before the ref breaks them. Very close round. Henderson had more control but Feijao did more damage. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Feijao.
Round Two: Henderson pressing forward and landing good punches. Henderson sprawls on the takedown and clinches. Feijao tried a trip takedown but Henderson reversed and ended up on top. Feijao reverses things and ends up on top. Short body shots by Feijao. The ref breaks them. Henderson uses a flurry to clinch and get the takedown into half guard. Henderson on top as the round ends. Henderson takes the round on control as Feijao didn’t really land anything significant this round. 5OZ scores the round 10-9 for Henderson.
Round Three: Big exchange before the clinch and a quick break. Henderson dropped Feijao with a right hand, got his back on the ground, and pounded him out until the ref stopped it.
