Albert Alvarez gunning to remain undefeated as amateur at Matrix Fights IV

One of the names recently making a great deal of buzz on the amateur scene has been Albert Alvarez, brother of Bellator’s highly-touted lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez. The 20-year old who made his in-ring debut this past December has earned victories in both of his outings including an eight-second knockout of Roy Smith in February.

The featherweight’s next test will come on April 22 at Matrix Fights IV in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania against 4-2 Derek Hart at Sheet Metal Union Workers’ Hall. The 6’0” Hart will enter the cage with a significant height advantage over the 5’7” Alvarez, in addition to 3X the experience, meaning the bout should prove to be the biggest test of the ascending amateur’s career.

Also set for action at the event, former Bellator middleweight LeVon Maynard takes on 6-0 Gemiyale Adkins while heavyweight prospect Azunna Anyanwu looks to go 5-for-5 on finishing his opponents against 8-4 Joel Wyatt.
