Marcos Galvao sets sights on Bellator bantamweight title

Fresh on an impressive showing against Bellator featherweight champ Joe Warren – a decision many felt should have gone his way – Marcos Galvao has signed up to participate as one of eight 135ers competing this fall for a shot at $100,000 and an opportunity to face bantamweight title-holder Zach Makovsky.

Galvao’s spot in the group was confirmed by way of an official press release from Bellator.

“In Bellator, fighters control their own destiny, and after the performance Marcos put on at Bellator 41, he definitely earned a spot in our bantamweight tournament,” explained CEO Bjorn Rebney of the decision to bring him on board next season.

One of the other eight men expected to mix it up at 135 pounds on Season 5 also happens to be Warren meaning a rematch between the two could take place at some point in the tournament. Crossing paths again with the featherweight champion is a possibility Galvao readily accepts and is actually hopeful for.

“I definitely don’t believe I lost my fight with Joe,” said Galvao. “I want a rematch just in case there was doubt in the first fight. I’ll clear up those doubts the second time around.”

The controversial loss defeat to Warren dropped the 29-year old’s overall record to 9-4-1 and broke a three-fight winning streak for the WEC veteran.
