Bellator announces opening round match-ups for “Summer Series” tournament

When Bellator Fighting Championships returns to the airwaves in a month after a successful Season 4 campaign the promotion will do so with the first group of fights for their “Summer Series” featherweight tournament, and now word has surfaced in regards to the specific scraps set to unfold at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

According to an official statement from the organization, the quartet of 145-pound pairings at Bellator 46 will feature submission specialist Nazareno Malegarie attempting to lure streaking prospect Jacob Devree onto the ground, rising star Ronnie Mann facing 9-1 Adam Schindler, Season 2 lightweight tourney winner Pat Curran against well-rounded veteran Luis Palomino, and former SRC champ Marlon Sandro standing opposite fellow debuting Brazilian Genair da Silva in the cage.

All eight men have their eye on the task at hand – a chance at a $100,000 payday and opportunity to face featherweight title-holder Joe Warren later in the year. Sandro addressed his goal specifically in the press release, saying, “I am coming to the United States to become a world champion. I see Bellator as the place to really make a name for myself here in the United States. I’m here to put on great fights, entertain the fans, and fight my way to the Bellator Featherweight World Championship.”

Mann echoed his sentiments, saying, “Trying to capture the Bellator Featherweight World Championship is absolutely my main goal. I don’t care how long it takes; that’s what I’m here to do.”

Female fighters Jessica Aguilar and Carla Esparza will also mix it up at Bellator 46 in undercard action, as will 5-1 heavyweight Tony Johnson Jr. against a yet-to-be-named opponent.
