Fickett falls to Cobb, Davis outpoints Spratt at “MFC 30: Up Close and Personal”

The UFC wasn’t the only promotion offering up a dose of MMA action in Canada this weekend, as regional favorite Maximum Fighting Championship fired up in Edmonton last night with “MFC 30: Up Close and Personal” and an event featuring colorful 155er Drew Fickett‘s bid to continue his current hot streak, as well as UFC veterans Marcus Davis and Pete Spratt battling it out at welterweight.

When Fickett entered the ring against the submission-savvy Brian Cobb he did so having had his hands raised five times in a row. However, in the end it was Cobb who exited the arena with a winning streak intact after surviving the bulk of the first round in Fickett’s clutches only to mount a comeback in the final thirty seconds of the round and ultimately score a TKO due to strikes.

Davis and Spratt went three full rounds against each other but focused more on technique and grappling than throwing caution to the wind in order to deliver a slugfest. In the end Davis walked away with the victory due to a Unanimous Decision on the scorecards.

Nice to see Davis and Spratt still get a co main event bout. Both guys have earned it surprised Fickett lost but the ref made the right call as he wasnt even trying to defend his head for 10 or 12 punches. Great event by MFC
