Two of bantamweight’s best will put the 135 in UFC 135 when the world’s foremost MMA promotion makes a stop in Denver this fall, as WEC veteran Damacio Page and Japanese icon Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto have been booked to square off on September 24 as part of a card already ripe with talent more than three months out.
Word of their probable pairing was announced through the UFC’s website where it mentioned verbal agreements were already in place.
Yamamoto made his Octagon debut in February at UFC 126 in a losing effort against divisional dynamo Demetrious Johnson after having scored an opening round knockout in his previous bout at a DREAM event. He holds an overall record of 18-4 with thirteen TKOs but has struggled over the past few years since enduring a series of injuries making a potential win over Page that much more crucial.
The 15-6 “Angel of Death” has also dealt with his share of defeat in the ring as of late with losses in his last two fights but had emerged victorious in seven of eight appearances prior. Page holds past wins over Marcos Galvao, Will Campuzano, and Scott Jorgensen.
Page and Yamamoto join a UFC 135 lineup already featuring welterweight legend Matt Hughes in action against original Ultimate Fighter winner Diego Sanchez in addition to all signs pointing at Jon Jones’ initial title-defense taking place on the show with former light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson standing in his way of success.
