Fans of female grappling are in for a treat this summer when the JEWELS promotion stops in Shinjuku Face, Japan with their “15th Ring” show and a card now featuring an appearance from submission machine Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii in addition to an already announced fight between Hitomi Akano and Roxanne Modafferi.
Five Ounces of Pain was able to confirm Fuijii’s participation at the event along with her opponent with sources familiar with her scheduling.
Standing opposite from Fujii in the ring on July 9 will be 8-4 Mika Nagano, a 27-year old up-and-comer with six wins by of submission. The bout will mark the second time the two have fought with their initial clash coming in late 2007 at Nagano’s professional debut where Fujii forced a tap less than two minutes into the match-up via Triangle Choke.
Though still signed to Bellator Fighting Championships, “Mega Megu” was last seen outpointing Emi Fujino under the SRC banner and will be looking for a second straight victory next month after having suffered the first loss of her career to Zoila Gurgel at Bellator 34 this past October. The dynamic Fujii holds an overall record of 23-1 and has submitted eighteen of the opponents she’s faced.
