Before fans have an opportunity to see Strikeforce champ Marloes Coenen defend her welterweight title against top contender Miesha Tate at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson” a handful of other talented women will take to the cage in hopes of procuring victory.
According to an official announcement from Strikeforce, veteran competitor Julie Kedzie will take on 9-4 Alexis Davis at the July 30 event while undefeated Olympic judoka Rhonda Rousey is set to test her ground game against submission-savvy Sarah D’Alelio in a wide-open race towards the 145-pound title.
Kedzie has won four straight fights and holds an overall record of 16-8 including success against respected peers like Kelly Kobold, Jan Finney, and Kaitlin Young. However, as skilled on the mat as the Greg Jackson competitor may be her opponent Davis is no slouch either with five submissions to her credit including a pair of finishes against Tonya Evinger.
Meanwhile, the 2-0 Rousey will look to make it three straight tap-outs since turning pro earlier this year after a decorated run in women’s judo though, similarly to the other announced match-up, D’Alelio is also comfortable on the ground as evident by a trio of submission wins in her five total fights.
The addition of Rousey vs. D’Alelio and Kedzie vs. Davis bring the total number of bouts at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson” to seven including the headlining fight between heavyweight icon Fedor Emelianenko and multi-time champ Dan Henderson as well as well-rounded fan-favorite Tim Kennedy taking on seasoned striker Rob Lawler.
