After a short delay due to injury, 13-3 middleweight Danillo Villefort will make his much anticipated Strikeforce debut next month in Las Vegas as part of the lineup for Strikeforce Challengers 18. Opposing him in the ring will be Nate James, a grappler with wins in three of his last four bouts who has yet to be knocked out in twenty total in-ring appearances.
The August match-up was revealed through a press release from Villefort’s representatives at Authentic Sports Management.
“I’m sure he’s going to be ready, but my job is to beat him down,” explained Villefort when asked what the public should expect. “With James, I’m going to make a statement to let all the 185-pounders know I’m here, and that I’m going to take over the middleweight division, starting on August 12.”
“Indio” has gone 9-1 since 2007 and is currently on a four fight winning streak including back-to-back victories over Matt Horwich and Joey Villasenor in addition to a pair of first frame knockouts. A polished competitor, Villefort has scored finishing performances in ten of his bouts with an even split between strike/submission stoppages.
Striikeforce Challengers 18 is headlined by always-exciting lightweight Jorge Gurgel in action against 9-2 finisher Joe Duarte and will also feature appearances from Gian Villante and Pat Healy.
