Bellator Fighting Championships has bolstered their welterweight division with the addition of 16-3 Ryan Ford, a finishing machine out of Edmonton, Alberta who is currently in the midst of a four-fight winning streak including stoppages against Pete Spratt and Karo Parisyan.
The MFC veteran’s signing was first reported by MMAJunkie, where it was mentioned the company is targeting an October debut in front of Ford’s Canadian countrymen, and has since been confirmed by a source close to the fighters by Five Ounces of Pain.
“The Real Deal” has avoided going to the scorecards against fifteen of the sixteen total opponents he’s beaten with a near-even split between submissions and TKOs. Ford last fought in June where he ended action in the third round after a series of strikes rendered Nick Hinchcliffe unable to continue.
On top of Ford, the ever-deepening pool of 170-pound talent at Bellator now includes Douglas Lima, Brent Weedman, Rick Hawn, Lyman Good, Dan Hornbuckle, Ben Saunders, Jay Hieron, and of course undefeated champion Ben Askren, plus a number of other solid rising stars and veteran competitors.
