The journey of former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley towards legitimacy in Mixed Martial Arts hit a bump earlier today with an announcement by Titan Fighting Championship that the 6-1 heavyweight had scratched from the lineup for Titan FC 19 where he was scheduled to face UFC veteran Eddie Sanchez in the main event.
According to an official statement from Titan FC head Joe Kelly, Lashley’s withdrawal was related to undisclosed “personal reasons” and added that the 35-year old was expected to be back in the ring when the company returns to the airwaves in late August. The July 29 show will now feature veteran female competitor Tonya Evinger taking on undefeated Olympic wrestler Sara McMann, as well as a 160-pound catchweight fight between Clay French and James Krause, at the top of the card.
Lashley was victorious in his promotional debut last March, albeit in inauspicious fashion after a sloppy outpointing of usual middleweight John Ott. The performance marked the second career win via decision for the powerful grappler with four finishes in his previous victories including stoppages of Bob Sapp and Wes Simms.
Titan FC 19 will be broadcast live on HDNet.
