Ultimate Fighter Season 8 champion Efrain Escudero returned to the winner’s circle over the weekend after picking up the first post of his post-UFC run in May against Fabricio Camoes. The 25-year old’s victory came at CFA 2 in Miami as part of an entertaining lineup also featuring fellow Octagon alumnus Sean McCorkle snapping the two-fight slide costing him his job in the UFC earlier this year.
The Arizona native had his hands full against area product Mike Rio who lived up to his regional hype by displaying a well-rounded attack often matching or exceeding Escudero’s own. However, in the end Escudero was able to outpoint the previously unbeaten Rio by winning the bulk of their exchanges and improved his overall record to 17-3 in the process.
The 11-2 McCorkle’s performance in the cage was far more aesthetically pleasing as fans of “Big Sexy” might have already suspected would be the case. The outspoken heavyweight knocked opponent Cameron Befort down early, then jumped on him to secure a fight-finishing Kimura a little more than a minute into their main event match-up.
Also notable at the event, Strikeforce veteran Francisco France was knocked out in the second stanza by Danny Babcock, while a number of up-and-comers kept their perfect records intact including Christopher Garcia, Yoislandy Izquierdo, Trent McCown, and Patrick Cenoble.
