Fans in Florida will have a chance to catch the opening round of action from Bellator’s upcoming Season 5 Middleweight Tournament when the promotion visits Fort Lauderdale on September 17. Among the eight athletes competing for a six-figure paycheck and an opportunity at explosive 185-pound champ Hector Lombard’s belt are former finalists (Bryan Baker/Alexander Shlemenko), a well-known veteran from overseas (Zelg Galesic), and a handful of the same type of talented prospects Bellator has become known for introducing them to world.
The date, location, and lineup for Bellator 50 were all announced earlier today through an official press release from the organization.
“Our 185 pound division is filled with an awe-inspiring group of fighters who have great talent,” said company head Bjorn Rebney. “Baker’s story of battling back from leukemia is inspiring and Jared Hess’s come back after a devastating knee injury is an incredible story.”
“Vitor Vianna is one of the most talked about prospects (at 185), Shlemenko’s one of the divisions most explosive striker, and Sam Alvey showed tremendous heart at Bellator 45,” Rebney glowed before offering praise to the remaining three middleweights – Brian Rogers, Victor O’Donnell, and Galesic.
Baker and Hess will battle each other in the tournament’s quarterfinal round, as will Shlemenko and Galesic. The other two match-ups will feature Rogers vs. O’Donnell and Vianna vs. Alvey. More local pairings for the preliminary portion of the show are expected to be announced in the coming days.
