It didn’t take long for Maximo Blanco to figure out that weight cutting is a skill needed to compete in MMA in America. Following his loss to Pat Healy at this past weekend’s Strikeforce event, Blanco has decided to drop from 155 to 145, and as a result could be moving over to the UFC.
The news comes courtesy of Blanco’s manager Brian Butler-Au speaking to MMAFighting.com.
After spending his entire career fighting in Japan, Blanco made his US debut at the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals event in a lightweight bout against Healy. While he won the first round with his speed and superior striking, although he was docked a point for illegal kicks to the face of a ground Healy, Blanco faded in the second round due to the pace and size of the American wrestler, eventually succumbing to a rear naked choke in the second round.
Prior to the loss, Blanco had won six straight fights.
